You missed the point of my original post on the subject.

The other individual was implying that quoting scripture made Warren a great man of God. My point was that not everyone who quotes scripture is a Man of God.

I never questioned Warren's walk, just the insipid book he wrote.

VERY GLAD WE AGREE ON THE ESSENTIALS OF THE FAITH.

I thought that WAS simple language. Rereading it, it appeared to me to be very simple language.

In terms of the accusing "why" . . .

Given books being my earliest friends . . . it's usually work for me to simplify my language unless I'm teaching Chinese students or counseling some sorts of people. I'm not sure why. But in those contexts, it seems easy and just flows. Otherwise, it's frustrating hard work--and evidently not always that successful. Sorry, I dowhat I can in the time and energy available.

To: Gamecock; All

You tell a falsehood about my point

AGAIN.

My point was that Rick Warren is and teaches and writes the OPPOSITE OF FLUFF.

He chose Scriptures that were the opposite of fluff Scriptures.

He made comments about those Scritpures that were the opposite of fluff comments.

It would be exceedingly more welcome if you would tell the truth about me and about what I say.

Fair enough. I was merely trying to say that just because one man is labelled similarly to others, it doesn't make him similar to them in any way, shape or form.

On a side note, Warrens book isn't the greatest Christian tome I have ever read, but I certainly would not call it insipid.

What would you correct about the PDL and PDC if you had the ability to change something?

Don,t tell me its 100% perfect.
If you do,I,ll know for sure that you are brainwashed.

What the heck? Rick Warren teaches a touchy feely, sinner centered, market driven philosophy and to his credit is very open about this. The unfortunate (and I would hope unintended) result is this review I heard from a nonbelieving friend: "The PDL is a great read for anyone who believes in a supreme power." That is not only unfortunate but St John would call it accomodating pagans and the beginning of heresy. Note that watering down the Gospel to make it more attractive to the world was something John the Beloved (St John to our Roman Catholic and Anglican friends) most strongly condemned in Revelations. The words in Rev 3 to the church at Pergamun would be the passage I refer to. Since you are SUCH an expert in Revelations, I will leave it to you to go ahead and read for yourself.

Not sure. I haven't been reading it with that attitude.

I lived most of my first 30 years or so very pharisaical, picky, negative, fault finding, critical, etc.

I really don't want to live there again.

I think, given his target audience, it's a pretty good book.

Given me, I'd likely intensify the punch in several places--or try to. But sometimes, as some significant research has shown--subtlty is MORE powerful than a DIRECT, intense punch. Especially so in matters of faith with some sorts of personalities.

For others, a hell-fire and brimstone message at the right time is more powerful. But most in our era consider such proof of being around the bend.

I really find that the criticisms of most of PDL to be carping about mostly chaff.

Given God's use of a donkey to speak prophetically, I am confident God easily uses PDL to great effect for the Kingdom--even as it is--flaws and all.

If, by the time I'm finished with it, I come up with significant paragraphs or sentences I might change, I'll try and remember to ping you.

Given your seemingly compulsive tendency to twist, distort, falsify

what I and others write . . .

I'm exceedingly more comfortable with my expert opinion than I am with yours.

Ahhhhh, so,

when the facts don't support your biases and wholesale distortions and exaggerations,

bring out the fiercely insulting koolaid assault.

Soooooooooooo Christlike.

I'm sure He's impressed.

In the 40 years that I have been a Christian I have seen and read critical reports of every new ministry that has come on the scene. That includes Billy Graham, Promise Keepers,MOPS, Awana and you name it.

That is exactly the problem, with each new ministry, there is more and more compromise of the truth.

Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein (Jer.6:16)
