Doubleday will publish the $24.95 hardcover book in November. Its version will be without the lengthy footnotes and cross-references that may be daunting to readers not familiar with the faith, said Michelle Rapkin, director of Doubleday's religious publishing division.

Obviously it will also be without the thousands of typos, poor grammar, editing changes, etc. that have taken place since the original 1830 version came out.

I'm looking forward to all the "Study" versions that will now be available.............

I don't think, though, that Ryrie or MacArthur will be rushing to get theirs finished.

I wonder how that will work? The official, i.e. church-sanctioned study guides are pretty lightweight when it comes to LDS theology. Anything else would be officially denied by the LDS church proper. I can see it now - page after page of scriptural and doctrinal footnotes that all lead to the same Gordon Hinckley "I don't know that we teach that" quote.

Nonetheless, I'll keep my Reformation Study Bible, thank you very much.

They could do a 40 Days of Morman Purpose Study version.

Purpose #1 would start off, "And it came to pass that the first purpose was..."

Purpose #2 would start off, "And it came to pass that the second purpose was..."

And so on and so forth.

I wonder why people would pay for something in a bookstore they could order for free online?
