A Pastor With a Drive to Convert: McLean Sanctuary Opens With Grander Plans
Washington Post ^ | June 27, 2004 | David Cho

When the Rev. Lon Solomon says he aims to persuade every soul in Washington to believe that "Jesus is the only ticket to heaven," it is a vow not to be taken lightly.

From the wealthy of McLean to the poor of Southeast Washington -- all are in his sights, especially the area's Jews, whose conversion Solomon considers his God-given calling.

While other Christian leaders might have similar goals, none has the advantage of Solomon's perch as pastor of McLean Bible Church, a glitzy megachurch with an evangelical mission that might seem an unlikely fit for Washington's most affluent suburb.

My church is on the front page of the Washington Post today. In typical WP fashion, even when they try to present a fair accounting they can't help but fabricate and misrepresent in some cases.

All in all, the publicity is still pretty exciting and furthers His work in the Nation's Capital.

As in almost all churches, there's a variety. At McLean Bible the most widely used is the NIV.

The article details Lon Solomon's personal testimony of being raised Jewish and becoming a Christian while at UNC Chapel Hill leading to his God-given calling for the Jewish people. He currently serves on the board of Jews for Jesus.

You're welcome. The liberal media likes to focus on controversy so they highlight ministries like Jews for Jesus to stir things up. While it certainly is an important ministry, it's necessary to remember that it's one of many. The Post article actually does present some of the positives that occur in church ministry.

Jews for Jesus to hit streets of D.C.

By Julia Duin
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published August 10, 2004

Dozens of evangelists with Jews for Jesus will hit the streets of Washington starting next week for a monthlong campaign at Metro stops, downtown areas and college campuses aimed at the Washington area's 215,000 Jews.
More than 600 people took an evangelism-training course last month at the 10,000-member McLean Bible Church to prepare for the "Behold Your God" campaign. The blitz also will involve radio and newspaper ads.
"We want to make the messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to Jewish people in the Washington area," said Stephen Katz, Washington director of Jews for Jesus. "We want to ask them: Is He our Messiah or not?" continue
