That said...if this is true...well...it would not be good. :-(
Please note that this is a press release, but, if true...
It is, unfortunately, a goof reflection of Mahoney;s general approach, which is--to apply the terminology of the Church of England--very "Broad Church."

Freudian slip? :-)
The Rainbow Sash Movement a National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Catholics is calling for the Resignation of Cardinal Mahony of LA.
The Rainbow Sash Movement believes that any Cardinals or Bishops who took part in hiding sexually preditor priests, should submit their resignation to the Pope. They should be forthcoming about this, however, if they fail to do the honorable thing, we believe that public pressure should be brought against them and force their resignation for the good of the Church. The Rainbow Sash Movement called for the resignation of Cardinal Law in the beginning when Boston became the epicenter of the clergy sexual abuse scandal. Cardinal Law's resignation shows that public pressure can bring about changes, concerning the immoral behavior of some of our Princes of the Church. We need to continue the house cleaning that was begun with Cardinal Law.
Now, the Rainbow Sash Movement is calling for Cardinal Roger Mahony's resignation. Cardinal Mahony has emerged as a self-styled reformer, yet more than 300 alleged victims claim he has concealed sex abusers. Authorities are investigating 50 clerics, including a disgraced bishop-in-exile and former Mahony protégé. A Ventura County grand jury has hauled in four of Mahony's top advisers for questioning. Cardinal Mahony is now Resisting Disclosure without question, there is a great sin infecting the very heart of the Roman Catholic Church. It's called "betrayal of innocence."
Additionally, Cardinal Mahony is not following the spirit of the guidelines that were worked out by the bishops in Dallas this past June. He has not been forth coming in sharing church records with the local states attorney's office. Cardinal Mahony must admit the part he has played in creating the clergy sex abuse scandal in his Archdiocese and resign. Hiding behind the 1st Amendment is unworthy of the cardinal, and shows the victims and their families where his concerns are.
The focus must be with the victims and their families. Cardinal Mahony, we ask you to do the honorable thing, and resign. Only than can you personally begin the process of reconciliation with the victims and their families.
They seem...conflicted.
Conflicting, no... They have much more in common then you think. Neither Mahoney nor the Gay Stash Movement care to reconcile their sins. I do agree that Mahoney needs to resign.
OK, I thought this was terrible wording from an article posted on their web site:
GAY CATHOLICS ACT UP.
ACT UP, for those too young to remember the 1980s, was a terrorist ass-f*cker organization, known for violently assaulting public officials, including (rumored homosexual) Ed Koch and Cardinal O'Connor. The saintly O'Connor had a largely secret ministry of personally giving care to the AIDS-afflicted, at a time when people were still nervous about contact and airborne transmission of the disease. Their most famous tactic was to receive the Holy Eucharist, chew it, and spit it onto the floor.
OK, get ready to be grossed out by the next turn of phrase from the article:
"receiving the body and blood of Christ through a mouth that openly welcomes others of the same sex"
(*Ed Koch was a decent and moderate mayor; I don't mean to gossip about him. AFAIK, the only reason he was thought to be gay was that he was a single man who talked a little odd. Not classically effeminate, but rather more like Elmer Fudd.)
OMG!
Time to FReep Mahony!
I'm in, but HOW?
What a pile of nonsense -- they want to be recognized yet they are after Mahony because he hid their kind???
Welcome to FR. You have FReepmail.
Sickening when you think of it that way. What would Jesus say and do?
He is one of the elusive ones. If I remember correctly, the Los Angeles Archdiocese website doesn't have a link to him. Here are the bishops and names and addresses........Live links in the next post.
