What is a "pennance service"?

I fear it's the gross abuse of "general absolution", reserved for soldiers about to enter battle or others in extraordinary circumstances.

A penance service offers no general absolution.

What it does offer is a prayerful atmosphere for readings, reflections, examination of conscience and prayer.

As the penance service ends, people are directed to the individual priests in different rooms around the sanctuary as well as the Reconciliation Room. We have a mixed congregation of Hispanics and Anglos so very often these services are bilinqual with bilingual priests.

The individual priests offer the indivudal absolutions, so, Land of the Irish, I really wonder where you are receiving and from whom you are receiving this mis-information

Do you have the canon law and catechism citations on that? THere are tons of those penance services around where I live and it seems many don't know they are violating canon law since their so-called priest allows it.
