Yes, for the most part they ARE amatuers. They are not Forensic Pathologists, Anthropologists, or Physiologists. They are professional Magicians, book authors, and people with pet theories... all amatuers, all inexperienced at interpreting forensic data.

Well, while a few Shroud researchers have made money by selling the books they've authored on their researches, they cannot be said to be making a living doing so... but some of the counter theorists can. Most of the researchers fund their research from their own pockets.
