My brother is contemplating suicide

Posted on 04/07/2004 3:17:22 PM PDT by Caravaggio

I was told my brother is SERIOUSLY considering suicide. He has medical and financial problems and if things get worse, he will do it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEASE pray that he does not do this. He has TOTALLY left God; brought up in a very Catholic home but thinks Christianity is a big fake now. Thinks there is just non-existence on the other side which would be better than the suffering he is going through now.

I don't know where else to turn. I have prayed so much for his conversion but he seems to be getting WORSE. He hates everybody and everything. His heart is filled with blackness. I heard in the past he may even have dabbled in the occult, and now I think a demon may have entered him. I feel he already IS in hell the way he hates so much.

PLEASE pray for him not to do anything so drastic as suicide. This would kill my parents and I know something inside me would die also. I can't imagine living knowing his soul is suffering so much in hell. He suffers now and I hate it, but at least while he's living there's hope (albeit it a very fine thread).

Thank you for your prayers.

What you need to do is find out if he really is serious about suicide. If there is anything at all that leads you to think he might possibly be seriously considering it, get professional medical intervention; and then contact a pastor or priest.

The big warning sign is this: does he have a plan? If he has figured out how he wants to commit suicide, then its time for you to intervene right then and there.

Also, if he suddenly improves, don't get complacent. Frequently, you'll hear friends say, "I don't understand why he did it, he seemed to get better and was less depressed." Don't let that fool you; sometimes the apparent improvement is because they see a light at the end of the tunnel: suicide.

Well from my years of being an office mgr for 2 Psychiatrists (one of which was the head Psych at our hosptal) working the ward, and working with their 5 therapists, I have found this to be true.

If someone is talking about suiciding, it is a cry for help and immediate action should be taken.

Who was the friend who came to you? The fact that he came to you speaks volumes to me; apparently he was concerned enough to get you involved. Furthermore, that your brother trusted him enough to confide in him indicates he might be your best man on the ground.

Maybe he needs to intervene.

You are in my Prayers, and your Brother, I pray that he finds healing of his spirit.

I join you in that prayer. May God send out His spirit of healing, and guide this man to a wise resolution of his material problems.

Some people have said not to force your brother to get psychiatric help.

I respectfully disagree.

If you have to go to court for an involuntary committment, that could save his life. He may need to be in treatment long enough for anti-depressant medications to take effect and break his downward spiral.

Depression is just as real as cancer, but with the added complication that the depressed see their condition as "reality" that medicine wouldn't help. One problem with such things is that sometimes you just have to make the person take their meds.

My only brother killed himself over 13 years ago, and it still grieves me terribly. I urge you to contact the Suicide Hotline where he lives immediately and ask them for guidance and referrals.

Jesus, Lord of life everlasting, have mercy on us.

You will be in our prayers here. Sounds like your brother is in serious trouble spiritually and mentally. Is there anyone around to give him face to face care? If he has dabbled in the occult before, he may have "let some thing in".

This happened to a friend of mine once. Long story, but if that is what is going on he needs help in both the psychological and spiritual realm.

All right everyone, lets keep Caravaggio's brother in our prayers.

My heart breaks for you. Please know I'll be praying. I would also suggest you and your family fly out immediately to see him- let him know he is loved. Be there for him and also contact local churches in his area for prayer and help. Forget the denomination, get the help from Any Christian church. Do not wait to see what happens...many times suicide people just need to know there is love and hope ...be that for him. I'll be praying...God bless you.
