CHUTZPAH, the old joke goes, is the Yiddish term for the brazen nerve of someone who kills his parents and then asks for mercy because he's an orphan.

Bryan M. Kuchar has chutzpah.

From his cell at the county jail in Clayton, Kuchar, a Catholic priest who is serving three years for the statutory sodomy of an 8th grade boy in 1995, has written his old parishioners asking for character references - plus any dirt they might have on his accuser. The second request would seem to eliminate any chance of the first.

Also, Kuchar asks anyone "aware of my accuser and his personal and family history" to contact the lawyer handling his appeal.

So good of the St. Louis Post Dispatch to "put word out" for this guy.
Sort of a conundrum for the media isn't it?  Blast away at the Catholic Church, or *gasp* call a crime of sodomy what it is.... a crime that leaves victims in its wake (regardless of consent, i.e., it's a "private matter").

Obviously Catholic institutions need to develop some basic guidelines for the design and construction of buildings which will be used for Catholic worship or Catholic education. The first principle really ought to be that no building should be erected which is monstrously ugly.

You must uderstand old boy, that the man ACTUALLY thinks he is not wrong or evil..... just following his "natural ways".

Personally, I think he should have been dragged behind 2 horses until he resembled hamburger.

Repentance? That's so pre-Vatican II !

I agree he does appear to be a sociopath. As such, his behavior is predictable.

Maybe the psychologists should be screening these people out before seminary instead of trying to patch things up after the predictable horrors have taken place. There are some tried and true personality assessment instruments available.

The bishop is trying to laicize him. He's resisting. It won't work. A lot of them resist. What's the problem?
