>>>Really, I think the average catholic won't think much one way or the other about this.

I see three groups, those who are die hard democrats. They won't care.

Those who are die hard pro-lifers. They will care, but it won't change their votes.

Then there is the mushy middle. They might care, it depends on how its presented to them, and whether they think he has crossed lines or not. Some will object, see www.catholicsagainstkerry.com. Someone has already registered www.catholicsforkerry.com, but I don't see a website there.

I think you've got a point.

Who WILL care? Practical Catholics, who revere and abide by the teachings of the Church and her Divine Founder.

Do any of us think THOSE people are voting Kerry?

The others are probably, to put it bluntly, social or cafeteria catholics. The Church is nothing but a glorified social club to them. They break the rules, why get on Kerry's case?

Pitiful. The words 'millstone around the neck' come to mind.

I am wondering if this photo op is intended to confuse the issue about Kerry being told not to receive communion in the Catholic church? I suspect a fair number of people might see the photo and think, "See, he can receive communion, it's no big deal." The finer points about him receiving it in further violation of the Catholic faith will probably go right over their heads. To those ignorant of Catholicism (like, say, most of the mainstream media), communion is communion... you're just talking about those fussy Catholic rules again that no one pays any attention to... and by the way, is that Teresa there receiving communion as well?

Well I think most Catholics would raise their eyebrows but some won't because of ignorance. Some Catholics are so poorly catechised that they don't even know you are not supposed to take communion in another denomination or they don't take the injunction not to do do seriously.
