We had a Lenten Penance service at my Church last night, and I think about 100% took the oppurtunity to have a personal confession with one of the eight or nine priests.

***"Therefore, on a Saturday afternoon with a line of penitents waiting for confession, the parish priest may follow a more "streamlined" version of the rite, which would include by custom the traditional format for confession."****
A line of penitents? Not in my Church.
A week ago Saturday we had the Penitential Service with 7 Priests. I must say all who attended went to confession
The problem was that out of 500 parishoners, 100 attended the service.
This past Saturday the usual 7 or 8 went to confession.
It is time the Priests in their homilys admonished those who go to communion without going to confession. It is time for the priests to preach confession in every homily.

Just a refresher. The timing on this is excellent. Many of us will be attending Penance services and Confession this week. Here are Fr. Altieri's guidelines - Confession 101.

BUMP
On a radio show last week, Father Corapi shared a worthwhile observance about Confession... he wryly observed that something's up when Communion lines are longer than Confession lines. Are people holier now? Great show... awesome speaker.
Thanks Des.

Great article and great advise. Not only does a good Confession bring us forgiveness of our sins, it also provides us with powerful, grace-filled means to overcome sin.
