Archbishop Weakland debuts own Web site with reflections, homilies

ST. FRANCIS, Wis. (CNS) -- After writing more than 1,000 messages to his flock through columns in the local Catholic newspaper during his almost quarter-century as Milwaukee's archbishop, it's no wonder that now-retired Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland continues to communicate with Catholics. Archbishop Weakland, who resides and maintains an office at the archdiocese's Cousins Center, began a personal Web site in early January. The Web site, www.archbishopweakland.com, features personal reflections, commentary on current events, cultural comments, including thoughts on books, music and movies, and audio recordings of past Sunday homilies given by Archbishop Weakland. A couple months into the project, the archbishop admitted maintaining the site and keeping the copy fresh is more work than he anticipated, but he remains excited about the opportunity to share his thoughts in writing.

Educated in the Weakland Rite of CCD till 5th grade, and then in Parochial schools until 8th, and Jesuit School until 12th, I really got the complete Theology teaching. LOL.

He still looks to the world, rather than to God, for his sustenance.

How sad that man is, really. He is indeed, the Catholic counterpart to Bill Clinton. "I'm still relevent, really I am!" "Don't forget about me!"

His day is over... the fruits of it live on and it would be graceful and admirable of him to let his apostolic successor get on with the Lord's work instead of undermining the present bishop. Unfortunately, Abshp. Weakland is the rallying point for those Catholics who are not enamored of the fact that we have a living teaching Magisterium and we look at faith and obedience as going hand in hand.

Has he paid back the diocesan money he misappropriated to pay hush money to his soddomite sidekick?
Why does Dolan grant him faculties or even allow his sorry butt on diocesan property?
By treating him like a honorably retired hierarch, Dolan is cotributing to his own undermining.
This kind of crap raises my blood pressure at least 20 points and makes me want to quit reading.
My trust level of our church leadership is in negative numbers.

I checked out the Archbishop's website. You know he still has an e-mail address from the archdiocesan's website - "Your comments and questions can be sent to archbishopweakland@archmil.org" -- poor Dolan.

Well rogator, I would imagine it's pretty hard to tell a retired archbishop to "go off into that sweet goodnight" when the retired archbishop just doesn't want to go. And you know he doesn't want to go as evidenced by his website (personal reflections on pretty banal stuff - like, who cares?) and his current use of an archdiocesan e-mail address ("I'm still here!!!") - how does a new bishop tell him to get lost?

These are the days (kind of like the arian thing) where you look beyond most of the current episcopacy or you go mad.

"how does a new bishop tell him to get lost?"

Either in person, on the phone or by mail. So what if he is an archbishop. If he were a pervert priest who had used parish money as hush money, he would be in jail (or at least suspended). Bishops should be held to a higher standard, not protected by their former peers. Guys like Weakland, Ryan, Ziemann and the rest should be defrocked.
I think the double standard for pervert bishops stinks.
No one on this board or elsewhere has been able to tell me the name of even one pervert or arguably larcenous bishop in this country who has been defrocked.
