Latin Masses to be allowed after 25 years

Latin, the ancient language of the Catholic Church, will be allowed in Diocese of Phoenix churches for the first time in at least 25 years.

Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, reversing 20 years of diocesan policy, announced the change to priests at a meeting earlier this month. A committee will report today on details.

Isn't it wonderful? We are so fortunate to have this holy,intelligent and empathic Bishop.Maybe I am dreaming but I think he can read souls.

Spent most of the day talking to happy Catholics here and then went to a couple of St. Patrick Day parties and met a whole lot of other happy people,or at least they were acting happy. Unfortunatly,it wasn't the Latin Mass that was the cause.

Cardinal Law was the driving force behind welcoming and facilitating the Anglican use parishes and also petitioning the pope regarding the ordintion of Anglican ministers to Catholic priests. Through the years there has been quite a few stories in the archdiocesan newspaper "The Pilot". Most of the converts are older, well established in their ministry and many of them bring their entire congregation with them.

There has also been many Anglican converts (ministers) on "The Journey Home" and a some of them have been ordained Catholic priests. The conversations have usually included details on the general movement, including how the ministers are generally well established in their ministry, have been married for many years and their children are grown.

I don't know if there has been any written studies done on this movement, but it has been detailed in many books and articles.

There is no documentation in the four gospels that any apostles were married when Jesus Christ chose them.

Most Jewish men at the time of Christ were married, most at an early age.

The fact that there is no documentation AT ALL about the marital status of the apostles likely points to the fact that they were married (with the exception of John).

We have been through this before, sara, and you are in the dark about this issue.

One of the biggest regrets I have is that I slept through Latin I and II back in the 70s.

It may not have done you any good to stay awake. I took 4 years of AP Latin at a Jesuit high school, and at the end of it I couldn't say the Ave Maria or Pater Noster. Not one word of ecclesiatical Latin was ever taught to us. Now my 5-year old can say all the basic prayers in Latin, which is a lot more than I knew when I was acing the Latin SATII.
