Please Help With Your Prayers

Posted on 03/17/2004 3:51:53 AM PST by GoBoks

Hello Everyone,

With Lent well underway, please Prayerfully consider becoming a missionary to empty Purgatory. This is an informal group of Religious & Lay people dedicated to Praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Please visit the web site for Mission To Empty Purgatory ( http://www.MTEP.com ). You will find no adverts, no requests for money and no need to give out personal information. All we need are your Prayers.

Please help the poor Holy Souls in Purgatory, they are in desperate need of our Prayers. As St Padre Pio says:

"The Holy Souls are eager for the prayers of the faithful which can gain indulgences for them. Their intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly. We must empty Purgatory!"

and St John Vianney said:

"Yet how quickly we could empty purgatory if we but really wished to."

Please add your Prayers to this extremely important cause.

God Bless You, Steve

I've always been curious about where the idea of Purgatory came from. Do you have any scripture about it or is it only a traditional belief of your church? Thanks.

Info on Purgatory

Scripture teaches that purgatory exists, even if it doesn’t use that word and even if 1 Peter 3:19 refers to a place other than purgatory.

Christ refers to the sinner who "will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come" (Matt. 12:32), suggesting that one can be freed after death of the consequences of one’s sins. Similarly, Paul tells us that, when we are judged, each man’s work will be tried. And what happens if a righteous man’s work fails the test? "He will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire" (1 Cor 3:15). Now this loss, this penalty, can’t refer to consignment to hell, since no one is saved there; and heaven can’t be meant, since there is no suffering ("fire") there. The Catholic doctrine of purgatory alone explains this passage.

Then, of course, there is the Bible’s approval of prayers for the dead: "In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the dead to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin" (2 Macc. 12:43–45). Prayers are not needed by those in heaven, and no one can help those in hell. That means some people must be in a third condition, at least temporarily. This verse so clearly illustrates the existence of purgatory that, at the time of the Reformation, Protestants had to cut the books of the Maccabees out of their Bibles in order to avoid accepting the doctrine.

Prayers for the dead and the consequent doctrine of purgatory have been part of the true religion since before the time of Christ. Not only can we show it was practiced by the Jews of the time of the Maccabees, but it has even been retained by Orthodox Jews today, who recite a prayer known as the Mourner’s Kaddish for eleven months after the death of a loved one so that the loved one may be purified. It was not the Catholic Church that added the doctrine of purgatory. Rather, any change in the original teaching has taken place in the Protestant churches, which rejected a doctrine that had always been believed by Jews and Christians.

Purgatory is contrary to the scriptures.

"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." "There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10. "The dead praise not the Lord." Psalm 115:17.

So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep." "His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them." Job 14:12, 21. "Neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:6.

"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing. ... Neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6.

Purgatory is contrary to the scriptures.

Perhaps if one is relying on an abridged, edited copy of Sacred Scripture along with the man made doctrines of some rabble rousers finding their genesis in the 16th century. However, if you rely on the original then it is not. Do yourself a favor and engage in some edification before transmitting opinions via a keyboard and modem. By the way, where will one find the words Trinity, Incarnation and Bible in Sacred Scripture?

Good One!!

It is quite clear and undisputed that the Bible was "altered" by the protestant reformers. Makes one wonder about how on earth they can take it seriously. .... Hmmm I don't like the part about thou shall not kill .... I know I'll just change the words to something more acceptable to me, or better still just leave it out altogether!! :)
