FROM The Liberty Committee

UNION, NJ (PRWEB) March 10, 2004 -- Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," through purposeful rewriting of the Christian Gospel mythos has, itself, become an anti-Semitic diatribe which, since it's February 25, 2004 release resulted in hate crimes against Jews, Synagogues and Jewish Cemeteries in cities throughout the US. Mel Gibson's unbiblical and a-historical account of the "crucifixion" story has taken Hutton Gibson's claims that the Holocaust is "fiction," even one step further.

Just as Adolf Hitler described the 300th anniversary performance of the Oberammergau Passion Play as "a convincing portrayal of the menace of Jewry" in 1934, Gibson and Writer/producer Tom Fontana's 2004 use of extreme graphic and excessive violence set up and perpetrated at the urging of "the Jews" in their portrayal displays a clear prejudicial bent against the Jewish faith.

Roman Catholic Biblical Scholar Father Gerald Caron, Professor of Biblical Studies at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax, calls Gibson's film "anti-Jewish, theologically flawed and historically dubious." In an interview with Rabbi Tovia Singer for Israel National Radio on the date of the film's release, Dr. Caron stated "The teaching of contempt - hate of the Jews or hate of their religion - is part and parcel of Christian history. This is a Christian problem that we have to get rid of, and its not a movie like this one that will help us continue our efforts to get rid of the denigration and condemnation of our Jewish brothers and sisters."

United State law defines "bias related" or "hate crime" to mean a "designated act that demonstrates an accused's prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibility, physical handicap, matriculation, or political affiliation of a victim of the subject designated act." Depending on the state, criminal and / or civil laws may apply, as well as recently enacted Federal statutes.

A digital petition at www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/765533849 implores US Attorney General John Ashcroft and the US Department of Justice to evaluate the anti-Semitism clearly presented in Gibson and Fontana's portrayal, and asks that civil, criminal, and Federal hate-crime laws, as appropriate, be utilized not only against the perpetrators involved in each and every act which it has encouraged, but against the directors, producers, and screen writers responsible for the work itself.

Gerold Caron is not living as a Catholic. IMO, he should be excommunicated for his PUBLIC heterdoxy.

I posted the first amendment because this group, in trying to use the government to silence Mel Gibson, is apparently unfamiliar with it.

I understand there is a national movement to award Mel Gibson the prestigious Congressional Medal that is given to Americans who have made a difference. We all need to get aboard this effort. No one in America deseves this more than Mel Gibson.

Mel's artistry is profound. Every frame of The Passion could be hung in a museum as a piece of art. We are all of us immensely grateful for Mel's talent and that he choose this particular subject matter to make his mark. The Passion of the Christ is making enormous contributions to the betterment of our culture. SOme 80% of Americans will see The Passion. Spread the word. America backs Mel Gibson. Mel deserves the Congressional Medal. The effort involves the following:

House of Representatives
Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs and Coinage,
Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs Washington, DC.

The subcommittee meets to hear testimony on legislation authorizing the presentation of a specially struck congressional gold medal for Mel Gibson. This medal would be presented by the President on behalf of the Congress in recognition of Mel Gibson's efforts.

Pursuant to the rules of the subcommittee, no bill authorizing gold medals may be considered unless it is cosponsored by at least 218 Members, a majority of the House.

The cosponsorship requirement was instituted in 1980 to make certain that only events and individuals that have truly contributed to the history of this country will be considered for gold medals. The provision was intended to make certain that by requiring the support of a majority of the Members of the most democratic legislative body in the world, only the most important acts and individuals would be honored.

The text would read as follows: To award a special gold medal to Mel Gibson to be introduced and referred to the Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs.

A BILL

To award a special gold medal to Mel Gibson.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That (a) the President is authorized to present, on behalf of the Congress, to Mel Gibson, a gold medal of appropriate design, in recognition of his efforts to address issues of importance to Americans.

(b) For the purposes of the presentation referred to in subsection (a), the Secretary of the Treasury shall cause to be struck a gold medal with suitable emblems, devices, and inscriptions to be determined by the Secretary.

(c) Effective (date), there are authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $20,000 to carry out this section.

Sec 2. (a) The Secretary of the Treasury may cause duplicates in bronze of the medal provided for in the first section to be coined and sold under such regulations as the Secretary may prescribe, at a price sufficient to cover the cost thereof, including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and overhead expenses, and the cost of the gold medal.

(b) The appropriated used to carry out the first section shall be reimbursed out of the proceeds of such sales.

Sec. 3. The medals provided for in this Act are national medals for the purpose of section 5111 of title 31, United States Code.

Apparently Caron wants the Gospels rewritten to exonerate Caiaphas and any other Jews involved in the death of Christ and rather place all the blame on the Romans. The ADL helped write Vatican II policy with regard to the Jews. Now Caron wants the ADL to rewrite the Gospels too. This is rather presumptuous at the very least. I haven't heard any Catholics demanding the right to rewrite the Talmud.

Didn't both the President and the First Lady say they wanted to see "The Passion of the Christ"? I wonder why we haven't heard anything. Is it possible they were scared off by accusations of anti-Semitism?

I wish these jerks would quit calling themselves "Jewish" this or "Jewish" that, they're making the rest of us look bad...

I feel the same way when every I hear "Women's" this or "Native American" that. In my humble opinion they should have to insert the word "some" in their name.

From their website:

Jesus of Nazareth: The False Messiah

For almost two thousand years, the Christian Church has taught that Jesus was crucified, died, and was resurrected three days later. This has long been one of the church's foundational beliefs, along with the virgin birth, atonement, and future second coming of Jesus.

In the year 325 CE, Constantine (a non-baptized Pagan) convened the Council of Nicea to settle disputes in the Church. The council changed Jesus from man to God in the flesh, they changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, and the Passover was changed to Easter. Among the nearly 200 Gospels circulating in the first three hundred years of this era, the Catholic Church canonized only four. Origen, the great Catholic father, confirms this fact: "And not four Gospels, but very many, out of which these we have chosen."

A partial list of the different books considered by the Church for inclusion were a gospel written by Jesus’ own hand; letters and other correspondences written by Jesus; letters written by the "virgin" Mary; Pilate’s official report to the emperor of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, with Pilate’s confession of faith; the reply to this from Tiberius, and the trial of Pilate; official documents of the Roman Senate about Jesus; Gospels, epistles, acts, by every single one of the twelve apostles; and official documents of church law and government, written in Greek by the apostles. In his book, Answering Christianity's Most Puzzling Questions, Christian apologist Richard Sisson states:

"In fact, after the death of Jesus a whole flood of books that claimed to be inspired appeared.... Disputes over which ones were true were so intense that the debate continued for centuries. Finally in the fourth century a group of church leaders called a council and took a vote. The 66 books that comprised our cherished Bible were declared to be Scripture by a vote of 568 to 563."

Paul and the writers of all four canonical Gospels described the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, as they understood it had happened. There is a acknowledged consensus among academic Christian theologians that:

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were not written by Jesus' disciples but by a person or persons whose names are unknown.

Neither Paul nor any of the Gospel writers had been an eyewitness to Jesus' ministry or death.

The Gospels record the beliefs and memories of various Christian groups as they had evolved at the time they were written.

Their Hollow Inheritance: A Comprehensive Refutation of Christian Missionaries cites additional discrepancies. Matthew 1:20 and Luke 1:31 describe "angels" appearing to Jesus’ mother and her husband informing them of her forthcoming "immaculate conception" and "virgin birth" to the "Son of God," the "Messiah." When compared with the way Jesus’ family and neighbors treated him, it is absurd to believe that "angels" really visited them:
Mark 3:21: Upon hearing of it, his family went out to seize him, for they said, "He is beside himself."
To offset the startling fact that Jesus’ family thought that he was insane, some New Testament editions replace "they" with "people," although "they" is in the original Greek text.

John 7:5: For even his brothers did not believe in him.

Luke 4:16: And Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the Sabbath day…
There, Jesus hinted to his friends and neighbors that he was the Messiah, however:

Luke 4:28: When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. And they rose up, and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong.
How very strange it is, that during all the years in which Yeshu grew up with them, his brothers, friends, and neighbors did not notice that he was a "divine being." And could it have been that his parents forgot or didn’t tell anyone what they experienced? This stretches one’s imagination.

These people are twisted. They try to make Christians hate them by calling their religion a fraud, and then they complain to the government when some nutcake spray paints their synagouge. Well most likely their synagouges were spray painted by people who didn't see the movie because you have to be able to read to understand it.

Did anyone just see the Saturday Night Live cartoon ragging on The Passion of the Christ? They had it as "The Passion of the Dumpty" as in Humpty Dumpty. Showing a fried egg as the last supper and going to heaven and making fun of the imgage of Christ dying on the cross.

I have never felt more insulted than I do right now as a Catholic. Plus they had Bush smear commercials in between the skits and painted Mel Gibson to be insane.

Well, well, well... Calif. Professor Suspected of Vandalism
A professor who claimed she was targeted in a hate crime that stirred student protests at the Claremont colleges is suspected of staging the vandalism herself, police said Wednesday.

Kerri F. Dunn's car was vandalized and covered with racist, anti-Semitic and sexist epithets on March 9, leading faculty to cancel classes and students to stage rallies the following day.

Two witnesses interviewed by police investigators allegedly saw Dunn, a visiting professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College, commit the vandalism, police said in a statement.

Dunn also gave inconsistent statements during two interviews conducted jointly by the Claremont Police Department and the FBI, said police Lt. Stan Van Horn.

Looks like she made it all up. More at http://www.jlollie.com
