Yes. A number of them would have special classes with me called Baltimore Catechism 101. They could either use it to rediscover the core of their faith or perhaps just view the experience as penance - perhaps both. Dealing with me could make it possibly an act of reparation. We'll see.

Very good. How do you feel about the use of rulers?

How do I say "bump" in Latin? I need to practice :-)

I use "bumpus ad summum."

Fr. Henle's five volumes are STILL in print and available from Loyola Press in Chicago after nearly 60 years. Believe it or not, he just died about a year ago. He must have been 140! OK, OK, so I exaggerate a bit. God bless Fr. Henle, SJ who lived his long life AMDG.

I'm in catch-up mode yet again this morning.

Last year during Lent, at my parish we sang not just the Kyrie and the Agnus Dei, but the Sanctus in Latin. It was all in chant and people caught on quickly, if they didn't know it already. Younger people are more interested than anyone realizes and the people currently in their 70s and 80s remember without complaint.

Now, after Lent, if we could work on the Gloria. The Credo and the Canon in due time.

I think there's signs that we're working our way toward regular use of Latin for some things. It would be nice. It's such a beautifully artistic language.

Next to Russian, Latin is a peice of cake. Honestly.

The priest at my old parish says there is a well known phrase in Italy, "the translator is a liar".

I like that. And yet another reason to actually learn the language.

"I can make them sing"...

Did you hear the Roman garrison commander's words just before the flagellation began in the movie?

"Facite musicam"

Failing that, I would also volunteer to help with the revival of certain customs of the Holy Office that could be salutary.

A new document on the use of Latin in the Church, and the teaching of Latin in seminaries, is expected sometime this year.

Super. (<---- That's Latin, isn't it?)

Unfortunately, I had to take a crash course this year. Not pretty.
