Reverend Upset By Sign Vandalism
News Channel 5 - Nashville ^ | January 27, 2004

There's growing controversy after someone defaced a sign at a well-known west Nashville Church.

Reverend James Guill spent part of Tuesday afternoon scraping rainbow-colored stickers off the sign in front of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. The stickers called for diversity.

In August a national vote confirmed the nation's first openly gay Episcopal bishop. In a symbolic response to the vote St. Andrews covered the word Episcopal on its own signs.

Guill said he’s upset about what he called a political message implying that St. Andrews isn't tolerant.

“It's vandalism and an attack at St. Andrews,” Guill said. “You feel violated.”

The stickers appeared three days before the annual convention in Nashville of the state Episcopal Diocese. One of the main topics will be the issue of homosexuality and the church.

Some of you may remember when St. Andrew's blacked out its signs in August. The gay activists have finally responded, and I don't think it's a coincidence that this happened three days before our diocesean convention. There is a full video currently posted at the link. I am a bit distrubed by our bishop's call for "unity" contained in the video. The last thing I want is union with these hateful heretics.

This is the sign defacement I Freep Mailed you about last night. Check out Bishop Herlong's comments on the video, and please continue to pray.

just your local gaystapo in action, that's all - though I personally might suggest using latex gloves when removing any such stickers.

For some unknown reason, my computer won't run the video so I'll watch the late edition of their newscast and hope they play it.

My computer won't run the video either.

I wouldn't worry too much about Channel 5's version of events or Bertram's edited statements, just before the annual convention. Herlong is solid as a rock. My wife is going to the convention as an alternate and we have reviewed the proposed resolutions.

St. Annes and the other queer churches have a lot of heretical resolutions proposed but I doubt if a single one of them passes. On the orthodox side we have resolutions that give our diocese maximum flexibity in maintaining traditional values and even opting for alternate communion. Things are looking up.

Our Tennessee delegations have betrayed the orthodox in the past, but this time I think the faithful have finally stood up to the Enemy. The battle is joined.

Pray hard.

I found their resolutions to be bullying in nature.
