Technical competence wouldn't hurt. Sunday morning I walked into church and heard three bars of the organ prelude (I know, they're not supposed to do that anymore, but at least it's insturmental) and knew that the regular organist wasn't there. There's a sub who is plain and simply a great musician. I looked in the bulletin and sure enough the sub was playing. It was the difference between night and day.

Please advise what reg has 'forbidden' organ preludes. I don't know of any at all (at least, from Rome) which so state.

As to Nat'l Ass'n of Pastoral Musician (NAPALM) guidelines--screw'em.
