I summarize the Filioque controversy for my RCIA classes in three minutes. Eyes glaze over, and I move on.

I always teach the Trinity through the words of Jesus. All of the debates of the Councils arguing over Trinitarian progression are beside the point if the catechumens understand Catholic teaching in the first place.

I haven't had two conversations in MY ENTIRE LIFE about the Trinity.

In a certain way this is sad. The central truth of our faith reduced to nothingness. Why not just be a Jew? (I'm not saying this of you personally, but rhetorically.)

The Trinity has great significance for our understanding of things.
