I always teach the Trinity through the words of Jesus. All of the debates of the Councils arguing over Trinitarian progression are beside the point if the catechumens understand Catholic teaching in the first place. I haven't had two conversations in MY ENTIRE LIFE about the Trinity.
In a certain way this is sad. The central truth of our faith reduced to nothingness. Why not just be a Jew? (I'm not saying this of you personally, but rhetorically.)
The Trinity has great significance for our understanding of things.

The Trinity has great significance for our understanding of things. How often do you have occasion to talk about the Trinity, outside of a formal setting?
The Trinity is significant, but most people, even good Catholics, are simply overwhelmed.
They accept it for the mystery it is.

In theology class in high schhol, one of my brothers asked, When the Son was on earth and the Father was in Heaven, where was the spirit if they are supposed to be one?
The teacher's jaw dropped.

"The Trinity has great significance for our understanding of things."
I would also add that our understanding of the Trinity is of crucial significance for the way we worship - it is at the very heart of the Liturgy.

I haven't had two conversations in MY ENTIRE LIFE about the Trinity. Sinky, how many conversations have you had about "God is Love"?
You might invite your RCIA class to ponder what it means to say that love is essential to God's substance from all eternity, and would be so even in the absence of creation. It's a question I like to pitch before muslims on another forum, because it plays havoc with the unexammined theology of islam.
