"that the Catholic Church, as a consequence of the normative and irrevocable dogmatic value of the Creed of 381, use the original Greek text alone in making translations of that Creed for catechetical and liturgical use."

Ping to the latest ecumenical offering from the USCCB - is this progress or capitulation?

I would be interested in your thoughts - bit of a long read though!

I really never saw the big difference in the understanding of the Creed with or without the filioque. I understand the Creed (with or without the filioque) the same way.

It seems that the argument lies in whether the Church has the authority to add anything to the Creed even for clarification purposes.

From my perspective, St. Patrick had the answer - the Shamrock - one flower, three distinct leaves on one vine.

Another part of "How the Irish saved Civilization." OK, I know St. Patrick wasn't really Irish, but I'm not going to quibble over small things ;-)

Who the heck makes up the "North American Orthodox-Catholic Consultation" in the USCCB anyway? After the foofah earlier this year regarding that "ad-hoc" committee trashing "The Passion," and the even earlier tug-o-war over the "Should we convert Jews anymore?" question penned by Cardinal Keeler, missives like this one are viewed by this reader as a distraction.

Wonder what the USCCB's various unnamed comittees has to say about "ABC Special explores whether Jesus had a wife".
