You wrote "How can an apostate discern God's will for his life? He is living in direct violation of Scripture. Why would God reveal something like he claims when is stands in opposition to what is revealed?"

the thing to remember here is that the heretics have no real capacity of 'discernment of spirits' - in other words in the spiritual realm they have no ability to discern between the Good guys and the Bad guys. The obvious result of this is that the demons that oppress the heretics appear to said heretics as 'angels of light'.

This is what the Apostle Paul refers to in 2 Cor 11: 12-15, viz:

12But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. 13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

My point exactly. He doesn't have the to capacity to discern. The rub is that he is claiming that he does, and some of the sheep are preparing to follow a false shepherd. Of course, this begs the question of whether or not the "sheep" are really "sheep," or are they, in the biblical sense, "goats"?
