"It has everything to do with his CLAIM to being able to discern God's will... but he is using the gullibility of those people to bamboozle them."

I agree with you. He may be making claims concerning God's will in order to further the homosexual agenda, however it's apparent that he is not interested in God's will, only his own will and agenda. The only thing that matters to these people is destroying the Church.

You wrote "The rub is that he is claiming that he does, and some of the sheep are preparing to follow a false shepherd. "

This is indeed a problem, and though robinson will pay for leading them away from the Truth, yet still each person is responsible to God for himself as well; and that is truly sad.

The main thrust of my ministry is training people (mainly high school and college-bound kids) to think with a Christian worldview. You can't do what you don't know. The problem in the ECUSA is that far too many of the people have not been taught to think Biblically. I used to substitute for the vicar of a small Episcopal Church in New Jersey. I am primarily an expository teacher, and that's how I preach. The people lapped it up - as would thirsty people in need of a drink. And the vicar was fairly conservative. People are responsible to God...but the choices they make are based on what they know...if they have been falsely taight, the decisions will not be right.

The following is from pages 513 - 514 of the Book of Common Prayer, being part of the ceremony for ordaining a bishop:

The Presiding Bishop then says the following, or similar words, and asks the response of the people

Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, you have heard testimony given that N.N. has been duly and lawfully elected to be a bishop of the Church of God to serve in the Diocese of N. You have been assured of his suitability and that the Church has approved him for this sacred responsibility. Nevertheless, if any of you know any reason why we should not proceed, let it now be made known.

If no objections are made, the Presiding Bishop continues

Is it your will that we ordain N. a bishop?

The People respond in these or other words

That is our will.

Presiding Bishop

Will you uphold N. as bishop?

The People respond in these or other words

We will.

The Presiding Bishop then says

The Scriptures tell us that our Savior Christ spent the whole night in prayer before he chose and sent forth his twelve apostles. Likewise, the apostles prayed before they appointed Matthias to be one of their number. Let us, therefore, follow their examples, and offer our prayers to Almighty God before we ordain N. for the work to which we trust the Holy Spirit has called him.

Gee. There don't seem to be directions on what to do if objections are raised.

Then, as in a regular service, lessons are read, and a sermon is preached. Among the alternatives for the lessons is 1 Timothy 3:1-7. I wonder if they'll read it? It is this:

1 Timothy 3

1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.

2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.

5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)

6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.
