Labor leader lining up cash for recall of Schwarzenegger
San Jose Mercury News ^

After Arnold Schwarzenegger obliterated his opponents in the recall like he has so many action-movie adversaries, most Democrats at least paid lip service to the idea of cooperating with the new governor.
Most, but not all.
Bob Brownstein, the brains behind much of the local labor establishment's political agenda, says he has already lined up $30,000 to recall Schwarzenegger, and ``I think I can get to $50,000, no problem.'' Ideally, the ex-chief of staff to former San Jose Mayor Susan Hammer says, the recall would go on the presidential ballot in November 2004. All of this depends, he adds, on other liberal activists around the state joining the cause.
``I am serious about it,'' Brownstein insisted. ``Assuming there are like-minded people in other counties, it would be my honor to be the coordinator in Santa Clara County.''

It's a good scam. Brownstein can pocket all of the money that the malcontents in the Bay area care to give to him, and so long as he "fails" to come up with the required 12.5% of signatures, he won't even be investigated by the state.
Easy money for a con artist. There will always be suckers around for them...

Let them try. If we are lucky, McAuliffe will start sending national money and drain their accounts as well. It won't work.

I agree. All he'll get is a huge groan from Californians and embarrass Democrats.

I think most of the $2 million was fighting off the challenges by the Dems and the card carrying members of the ACLU.
To: Loyal Buckeye
It was $1.7 million and it was used to pay signature gatherers and postage for petitions mailed out.

I hope he makes it.
The ballot will be busy anyway with Pres, Sen and Rep elections, local offices and Propositions. Add to that over a thousand candidates for Gov if we are lucky, and it will be so confusing, that the semi illeterates that make up the Dem party will screw up their ballot every time.

``I'm just saddened deeply because I think Californians have just made a mistake,'' Vasconcellos (state Sen. John Vasconcellos, D-San Jose) told KPIX-TV (Ch. 5) after the results came in. ``Davis is a tragic figure, and Schwarzenegger is a boob.''Bummer. What is this Dislexic Daschel? I think he got the last part wrong too. BooFrickenHoo.
The Secretary of State's office last week said turnout was about 60 percent -- a respectable showing, but hardly overwhelming considering all the media hype. And even that three-fifths figure overstates the actual level of participation. That's because it only takes into account the 15.4 million who are registered to vote, as opposed to the 21.8 million who are eligible.
The only thing that counted was registered voters. Why count the rest when they didn't even bother?

To: John Jorsett
I predict that if he does it, he'll hand the state to the republican president by 20 points. The citizens of this state have had it with "democrats" as usual.
To: Parley Baer
Ah I love the smell of Democrats pouring money down a rathole in the morning. Hope they talk up lots more lost causes and waste millions.
