When your society legitimizes theft in the name of charity then those who have will inevitably resort to force to preserve what they have.
The netherlands needs a social wayback machine.

Slightly-built Roos was knocked to the ground where she was kicked and punched by a group of people, including four young employees and an unknown number of bystanders, the statement said. That's what gun control gets you; the victim had to suffer through getting beaten to death instead of a quicker, if not less painful, a least a shorter period of suffering that a gunshot would have provided.

In August, two workers of the Albert Heijn supermarket chain chased a knife-wielding man who tried to hold up a store and wrestled him to the ground. He was also beaten by the employees. The two were prosecuted for excessive violence and fined £1,200 by an Amsterdam judge.
Hmmm. Think this was the thief's first heist? Wonder if he had stabbed any victims in the past. The dutch seem to be tolerant of drugs/druggies, crime/criminals, weapons, but at least they take a stand on vigilantism, damnit.
You wrestle an armed man to the ground you'd best be prepared to fight. He may have more weapons and he may be a skilled unarmed fighter.

This is sick. Let the punishment fit the crime. This clearly doesn't. These people are murderers.

When I worked at a grocery store at 17 they told us to chase anybody trying to steal anything. I laughed and told them they can have a coke and a smile and hire security but of course they took the cheapskate route to try to ensure their big bonuses and if any employee were to be injured they'd get their asses sued. The shoplifter could have a knife or a gun, it was insane. I could care less if shoplifers steal, it wasn't my problem or my job.

Looks like the Dutch are finding some creative solutions to their liberal drug laws. I congratulate them.

Anna Roos was chased from the Dirk van der Broek store by employees and died later of internal bleeding and injuries sustained during a beating, according to a police statement. Sounds like Muslims. Any names yet? Clear case of murder.

http://www.expatica.com/index.asp?pad=2,18,&item_id=34861 Sixth man arrested in 'vigilante' case
10 October 2003
AMSTERDAM Police arrested a sixth suspect on Thursday night in connection with the death of a 43-year-old woman who allegedly died in a vigilante-style attack outside an Amsterdam supermarket.
The suspect is an 18-year-old man and police said he was probably not an employee of the supermarket implicated in Monday's attack. Five supermarket employees aged between 17 and 19 have already been arrested for their alleged role in the woman's death.
Victim Anja Roos was initially suspected at about 8.30pm on Monday of stealing beer and dog food from a Dirk van de Broek supermarket on Marie Heinekenplein in Amsterdam, but a police spokesman confirmed on Friday that she had paid for her goods.
Two supermarket employees had suspected Joos of theft and asked to inspect her bag, but she produced a cashier's receipt and the two staff members apologised and wanted to return to the store. But other employees and bystanders interfered and in total, a group of about eight or nine men became involved in the incident.
A verbal and physical fight is alleged to have developed and witnesses claim that one or two male youths subsequently started kicking Joos. The abuse allegedly lasted several minutes, after which the youths fled and the victim was later found by police. She was declared dead on arrival at hospital.
Meanwhile, police also arrested a 21-year-old man on Thursday, but later released him. He was not an employee of the supermarket. A police spokesman could not confirm if the man's possible involvement in the crime had been ruled out.
The death has sparked controversy across the country, as residents of De Pijp in Amsterdam claimed that supermarket staff members have previously been involved in violent incidents with thieves and a male resident claimed that employers even operated like a "judge".
A youth who was also suspected of theft was allegedly assaulted by staff also on Monday and residents claim that other such incidents have involved Dirk van de Broek staff.
But the municipal authority is unaware of repeated assaults and a Dirk van de Broek company spokesman said chasing thieves outside a shop was not company policy. The supermarket also expressed its condolences on the family of Joos.
The results of an autopsy report on Wednesday indicated that German-born Joos, a known heroin and cocaine drug user, died as a direct result of the attack. She was HIV positive, having earlier worked as a street prostitute. She was considered good-natured person who rarely caused trouble.
German authorities are trying to locate any family of Joos, but if no one is tracked down, her funeral will be arranged and paid for by social services. A date for the funeral has not been set.
Prince Bernhard who came out in support of two Albert Heijn (AH) workers who were arrested for a vigilante-style incident involving an armed robber in Amsterdam last year has condemned Monday's killing.
The Government Information Service (RVD) said the prince described the woman's death as "appalling". It also dismissed comparisons between the AH case which saw Prince Bernhard pay the EUR 300 fine imposed on one of the supermarket employees and Monday's tragedy.
