Senate candidate too good to be true

If Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chirinjeev Kathuria makes it to the March primary ballot, the one vote he may not be able to count on is his own.
The 38-year-old Oak Brook business promoter isn't registered to vote. According to election officials in DuPage County, where he grew up and still lives with his parents, he never has been.

Conservatives take notice
Yet much of that seems to have escaped the notice of leading Republicans and many leading media outlets, who have uncritically embraced his tales of achievement and innovation.
"He's someone whose being a candidate is important to the Republican Party," said Grover Norquist, a prominent conservative activist and an architect of the Bush administration tax cuts. "He's from the subcontinent and he's ... been a successful businessman."

Kathuria's campaign manager was among those of us attending the ICRC Steering Committee meeting yesterday agfternoon. This had just broken in the "early" sunday (actually late Saturday) edition of the Trib. He was totally aghast and says Kathuria's lawyers were meeting and plan to file a lawsuit against the Trib on Tuesday.
Remember, Tribune Companies also own the LA Times that produced hit pieces on Ahnold.

"He was totally aghast and says Kathuria's lawyers were meeting and plan to file a lawsuit against the Trib on Tuesday"
So, do you mean he IS registered to vote? Oh, and as for these long Indian names, I really like it when they chose shorter common American nicknames. For this fellow, how about "Chick". That was my dad's nickname (for Charles) and it is very rare these days. Maybe he can revive it.
And if the newspaper is wrong, I certainly hope you sue & win.
And for all you chi-town folks:

And if the newspaper is wrong, I certainly hope you sue & win. Rick Pearson is well known in the Chicago area for his anti-conservative hit pieces. I suspect, though (as you seem to), that there may be some glimmer of truth behind this and Kathuria probably has not been thoroughly vetted, even by his owncampaign staff. It will be interesting to see what shakes out.
I don't personally have a horse in this race yet, but will probably end up working for either Steve Raushenberger or Jack Ryan.
... and thanx for the GO CUBBIES!!!

Go Oberweiss! You scream ... I scream ... we all scream for ice cream!
For me, it's come down to a choice between Ryan and Raushenberger. Raushenberger is better on the issues but has no money. Check out Ryan's positions on the issue on his web site, and there's not much to disagree with. Plus he is the most ELECTABLE ... and that oughta count for something!

BTW, Milton Twp. (DuPage County) GOP fundraiser last Friday night drew almost 600 guests and 7 of the GOP senate hopefuls. They each got too make a presentation and a straw poll was conducted.
Approx resultes (as to my best recollection ... place are correct, vote totals are what I think I remember):
1st Ryan (95)
2nd Raushenberger (85)
3rd Mc Kenna (80)
4th Oberweis (67)
5th Kathuria (37)
oooppps
Last Borling (13)

I just don't like seeing that Ryan name again.

I just don't like seeing that Ryan name again. I knows whats you mean, BUT he's got SOCCER MOM APPEAL!
This alone wiil get him an extra 500,000 votes in the collar counties.
Dan Proft, who worked for O'Malley's last campaign, has joined the Ryan camp. To me, that's significant.

I am so sad TRG, I use to think you were your own man and valued your own ideas.
From the looks of it You have thrown all that away because your worried about what your close personal friends think.
You scratch my back, I'll scratch your's is what I heard the game is called. Have fun.

If you think the name is bad you ought to see the real candidate.
The name spineless jellyfish comes to mind.

"Check out Ryan's positions on the issue on his web site, and there's not much to disagree with"
That's if you can believe he has not made up his positions in the last 10 days. He took a poll of what people think and put it on his website. He doesn't believe any of it. Sounds like he is following in the footsteps of Mr. Cox.
To: Chi-townChief
See post #16 that's a heads up on Ryan.

You have to wonder when the "Republican" Tribune loves to write up characther assissinations on any Republican candidate (especially conservatives) who are not part of the status quo and don't have the blessing of the party machiniary. This was the only "mainstream" paper kooky enough to endorse George's soulmate Corrinne Wood for Governor, after all. How did that help Republicans?
I think this is BIGGER than Dr. K. He's not polling high enough to be seen as a threat yet. He's not going after any of the choosen ones. None of his primary opponents have had anything negative to say about him either. Notice this hit piece occured right after ANOTHER CONSERVATIVE Indian-American won an huge upset in Louisiana and scored the GOP nomination. This is about the even increasing amount of minorities voting for and running on conservative principles -- and how the status quo doesn't like that. Goes against their theory that the GOP must be more LIBERAL to win, not find more qualified minorities who believe in CONSERVATIVE principles. Even if Kathuria didn't win, he might assist Jack Ryan in bringing minorities into the conservative fold for the Senate election.
Can't have that, eh Tribune?

I am so sad TRG, I use to think you were your own man and valued your own ideas. The fact that I remain undecided between Ryan and Raushenberger means I don't value my own ideals???? Get some coffee. Double-check dosages an all meds.

If I were so worried about what many of my close personal friends think, I wouldn't be caught dead here at FR ;^)

Backscratching, for me, is a sensual sport ... totally unrelated to politics!
And, yes, IT IS FUN!
