[history]
Wesley Clark may be leading the Democratic presidential pack in the national polls, but he is far behind the front-runners in the crucial early state races that will heavily influence, if not decide, who will become the party's nominee.
With behind-the-scenes support from former President Clinton, the retired four-star general from Little Rock, Ark., who was supreme commander of NATO forces, catapulted into the lead in the national polls right after he announced his candidacy last month and has held that position ever since. Three weeks after he entered the contest, he is still drawing 22 percent in the national Gallup Poll — outdistancing his four top rivals who have been campaigning for more than a year.

The reason for this odd fact about Weasley Clark leading nationwide and coming in fifth in Iowa and New Hampshire is that the voters in those two states know they will have to make a choice and it ain't gonna be Weasley. Nationwide voters probably just said yes to Weasley because he is the latest novelty act but they won't actually vote for him when they enter the voting booth.

"Mr. Kerry is all nuance and no message," independent pollster John Zogby said.
This statement might be true, but shouldn't an "independent pollster" hold his opinion?

Thanks for posting this PJ. I have wondered this exact thing myself ever since Ashley got tossed into the ring by x42rapistperjurer and The Hildabeaste.
National polls mean nothing.
And it's unfortunate that the mindset of the sheeple seems to be, "Oh, he's new... I'm for him." Really sad.

The question is: when Dean wins and others start dropping out, where will the votes for those candidates go? If the candidates endorse Clark (because he is more electable than Dean), one could imagine a scenario where Clark has a very strong finish.

That's a very vivid "imagination" you've got there.

Except, they wont drop out...i dont see too many dropping out. Dean, Kerry, Gephardt, Lieberman, Kucinich, Sharpton edwards and Clark will all stik around till the end. There will be no dropping out for them.

Voters are sick of career politician weasels from both parties.Well, there's no indication they care for the weasels from the third parties, either.

Well, Fox already ran a story that Clark is basically ceding the primaries---he has a "non-primary" strategy designed to somehow result in a "draft Clark" process at the convention. Uh huh. Somehow, I don't think the Dean and Kerry delegates are going to play.

I see your point, but in an age when everyone seems to calculate and be deliberately ambiguous, it's nice to see anyone call them as they see them.

There's nothing improper about commenting on your own polls. He's just saying what he's hearing from respondents.
