Our item on retired and active military members being asked by USAA Magazine to rank their all-time favorite military movies (the most popular, in order, were "Twelve O'Clock High," The Bridge on the River Kwai," "The Longest Day," "Patton," "The Deer Hunter," "Saving Private Ryan" and "We Were Soldiers") generated considerable response from within the ranks.
"I saw that article ... and wondered how they came up with those movies. Then I saw the writer was a retired Air Force officer. Well, no wonder," writes retired Army officer Bob Thomas of Guthrie, Okla.
"Soldiers would choose a different set of favorite war movies, as would sailors and Marines. I can't believe no one mentioned 'Black Hawk Down,' 'Flight of the Intruder,' 'Gettysburg,' 'Memphis Belle,' or 'Full Metal Jacket.' "

You guys know what's up with all the insider FReepers duking it out over some FReeper called Badjoe threatening to out all the Mods.
There are several threads running at high octane and volume on it right now.
I'm an outlier and I doubt any of you guys are Mods so I stay out of all that shite. I've only had posts pulled once and no warnings which is amazing as much as I piss off the PC Freeper social engineering darlings.
Oh well....just wondered....I'm so far outta the loop....I wouldn't even get monthly visits...lol

LOL...me too. I really don't get into all that schmoozing and butt kissing....I just pulled up recent posts and that stuff was running in the thousands on several threads.
I would like to know who the Mods are/were since I know I push the candid boundaries at times. I mean I guess I do....I get called sexist, racist, talibanista etc every week by some crusader here who dislikes hard talk.
Yes...you can borrow 5 bucks....

"No Mans Land". Wounded Serbian is boobytrapped laying on top of a bouncing betty. The wounded soldier was a Bosnian Muslim. Before Tito created the "Nationality" of Muslim, they were classified as Serbs or Croats.

Savior's massacre by the lake with the big Bosnian with the mallet is hard to watch. The "big Bosnian" and his buddies were Bosnian Croats. Note the red and white checkerboard insignia.

I saw the end of that movie on TV, he's on the boat witnessing the massacre by the riverside. Brutal. For shore, you gotta have optics to be a player today. Night optics too.

I'm sorry he's so touchy about the criminal invader issue, but then I refer to rule #1.

I'd like to see a thread listing the most realistic war movies. Ones that capture what it's really like to be in a battle.
Long periods of boredom interrupted by outbreaks of sheer terror and chaos.
A good example is the opening scene from "Saving Pvt. Ryan."
To: quietolong
the movie you refer to was "on the beach."

Ahh,
The Bedford Incident.Thought I was the only one that really enjoyed this movie.
I've tried to rent it several times to no avail.
It used to make the rounds of late night movies but hasn't in years.
Richard Widmark at his finest.. IMHO

You better be jerking my chain.
I did not want to try to catch up on those huge threads to see which Mods had confessed. I did see a few. JohnHuang2, kattracks were the only two I saw who I post to as a rule....

Thanks...which is why I was reluctant to specify which Bosnian. The girl that has had the baby though was a Serb who had been held by Muslims was she not.....and since impregnated, her family disowned her...in fact were going to kill her until Quaid stepped in and killed a few of them.
They made no pretense that Quaid was not there to kill Muslims.
It's been a couple of years....it was one of those movies that was much better than I expected.
