The suspicion is that it's in regard to no bid contracts being given out to friends/supporters and family.

at the Municipal Services Building. What is the Mun. Services Building used for? And where are the mayor's offices at - and is this where he would meet for a cabinet meeting?

Don't tell me that Wilson Goode is back to call in air strikes on his own citizens.Nah, Bush hired him to run civil affairs in Tikrit.

I don't think investigations, an indictment, or even jail time is going to hurt Mayor Street in a city like Philadelphia. And that has nothing to do with his skin color. I can't remember the last time that Philly has had a mayor who WASN'T a crook.

I, in my admitted ignorance of the situation, also wonder why they picked Friday afternoon to do this. If it had been an "ultra-right winger", they would have done it on a Monday or Tuesday to get a full week's coverage.

Also a story recently about Street's top aide threatening Street's white opponent, Katz, and his campaign workers. Effer thinks he's a Mugabe or something living in a third world country.

From reports I have seen .. this isn't about the election .. this investigation has been on going for some time and was brought to the front because Street had the Police Chief come in and do a sweep of his office
And if you knew anything about John Street .. this investigation will stretch to others in the city
Dog is right .. This is BIG

The worst part about the MOVE bombing was that it showed that no one was in charge and everyone was incompetent. The Police and Fire Departments didn't bother to consult the Mayor on the decision. The Police didn't consult with the Fire Commissioner. Lower level police supervisors didn't give the Police Commissioner all the info he needed nor did they consult the firemen about the wisdom of letting a rowhome fire burn the felons out. The guy who made the bomb unilaterally decided to add C-4 to the Tovex (sp?) without telling anyone (he felt that the Tovex wouldn't be enough to take out the homemade roof bunker -- C-4 produces fire, Tovex was meant for mines so it produced very little). Only one cop on the force had ever had hostage negotiation training (he paid for it himself). Those were just some of the problems that day. And Mayor Goode's lack of control extended to the rebuilding -- worthless crappy homes were built at a cost three to four times what it should have been.

Thanks. I just read something about an Islamic Imam cuddy of his under investigation, too, which is rather interesting.

The interesting thing is what effect a Katz victory may have on the '04 election. I believe that PA was one of the states Bush was *supposed* to have won in 2000, but didn't after the City of Brotherly Love had nearly a 100% election day "turnout" for Algore...
