No problem, Qwinn.

Extreme pain is not the same as no longer being high.

Most people are not aware that the majority of addicts began their addiction with prescribed drugs.

Obtaining their pain killers illegally places them in the criminal class. This is a huge problem. Society loses a productive citizen and the underground gains a new criminal.

I believe we need to take the fear of the law out of the equation and treat addiction as a public health issue.

Actually, I remember. And I remember because as a recovering alcoholic,I was interested in what he had to say. He has said that he doesn't understand addiction, that he never has had problems like that. He didn't make judgement about people who did, he just said he didn't understand. I don't remember exactly when he made those statements, I'm thinking (and hoping), they were before his problem began.

How does it feel to be perfect? I'm very tired of people who NEVER have a human frailty, or at least won't admit to it. Rush came forward today in the most public way that he could. I admire him for it, and pray for his recovery

You people never quit, do you?

I'm not criticizing Rush for having a drug problem; I'm criticizing Rush for supporting the insane Drug War and the harsh treatment of addicts while heavily using narcotics himself.

I have a lot more compassion for Rush than he has shown for his fellow addicts over the years.

"Hey, why not start a thread about Rush in regards to the WO(s)D?"

whaddaya mean "a" thread - a safe prediction is that this will be a 'talking point' for every anti-WOD thread from here on out.

you believe Rush simultaneously called all people who have long hair "maggot-infested" as well.

No, but he certainly implied a correlation among the listed qualities.

to all the long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking FM types..

That's his colorful description of leftwing hippies. He doesn't express an opinion that dope smokers should be put into jail any more than he does that FM types or maggot infested people should be put into jail.

>>...The surgery was unsuccessful and I continue to have severe pain in my lower back and neck...two herniated discs....<<

You know, I'd define "addiction" as taking the medication after not needing it.

If you've got chronic pain and NEED the medication every day, then that's not an addiction. IMHO.

(by the way, I've had a herniated disc and surgery myself. Luckily the surgery was successful and my daily pain is tolerable without meds. Before the surgery the pain was excruciating. I cannot imagine living with that every day. I feel sorry for Rush.)

It's his mental meal ticket.

What is a "mental meal ticket"?

Hell, celebrities and the kids of high rolling politicians break the law routinely to get their fix....Happens all the time.....

Which makes it easy to make that leap of logic. I know. But I'm willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt; he has earned at least that much.

Um, and yes, I would agree that there is such a correlation. I would agree that most people who really are maggot infested criminals stick to FM when they listen to the radio. And that they vote democrat.

That doesn't mean that I think that all people who listen to FM or are Democrats are maggot infested.

Well, at least not the FM people. (note for the humorless: This is a joke)

And today wacky tabackky. Rush had the courage to admit his problem to millions of people

Yes, it was his best PR move now that his cojones are in a legal vise.

If he has so much "courage" why didn't he tell the public on the two previous occasions he went into detox?

Yeah, now that he's been brought down, there'll be many running in to share in the kill.

I'm hoping and expecting that they will all be denied, and that Rush will survive to continue his war, our war, against the Left.

How do the Freepers feel, now that they can no longer deny that they have been led by a blathering numbskull drug head, propping himself up on hillbilly heroine?

Hillbilly heroine? Does he mean Ellie May Clampett or does he mean hillbilly heroin?

At least freepers can spell.

So someone who gets addicted because he's taking pills for pain is equivalent to someone who smokes dope for fun?

Yep.

First of all, a multi-millionaire has many remedies to pain and addiction not open to the hoi-polloi. Rush's efforts to drop this stuff have been half-hearted at best. When we look behind the curtain (as in the Wizard of Oz) it ought to be fairly obvious. Rush is on these drugs because he wants to be on these drugs. No different than Elvis.

So the sympathy ploy doesn't wash with me.

He's a doper. As I know many people who are worthwhile - even extremely talented - who are dopers, it doesn't bother me. What does bother me deeply is his HYPOCRISY.

He's not long-haired, maggot infested, nor is he dope smoking. he's addicted to PRESCRIPTION pain killers. He's not some homeless, wino living on the street or on the public hand-out.

Addiction is addiction. Honest Drug Warriors know this. He may not be a wino living on the street, but he was allegedly sending out housekeepers to buy his drugs OFF THE STREET. He's contributing to the Drug Culture just as much as anyone else buying drugs off a street corner.

Most people do not have a desire to air their dirty laundry in public. That point is obviously lost on you; you have already tried and convicted him.
