Sorry bout that LittleJoe :) I will likely be lousy at replying to the right posts, cause usually my posts are to "All" on recurring themes in a thread so I don't think of it.
While I -do- feel compassion for people in spiritual pain, I still don't think it's the same as physical pain, and I don't think of mental anguish as an "illness" in the same way as a physical illness. I know that's how modern psychiatry treats it, but I think modern psychiatry is wrong on every fundamental level anyway.
It's just that to me, there's a big difference between the act of quitting a drug that brings you (after a few days of detox) back to a NORMAL level of non-pain, versus quitting a drug that brings you back to a level of excrutiating physical pain. Why is that so difficult a difference for people to perceive? Is it that they think that "being high is to normality as normality is to pain"? That it's relative, that it's just as much of a letdown? Having used drugs in my day, I don't buy that, sorry. Extreme pain is not the same as no longer being high.

How does it feel to be perfect? I'm very tired of people who NEVER have a human frailty, or at least won't admit to it. Rush came forward today in the most public way that he could. I admire him for it, and pray for his recovery.
To: WackyKat
For at least six years of that time Rush has been eating powerful narcotics, often illegally obtained, like they were Skittles And today wacky tabackky. Rush had the courage to admit his problem to millions of people.
Not like your hero, Bill Clinton, who pointed his finger at me, with his co-President Hillary by his side and say,
"I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky".

This drug, Shep said is 5 times more addictive than heroin. We all know that many people that try heroin get hooked the first time. This highly addictive drug was apparently prescribed for Rush. It's sad and it could be any one of us.
To: Joe Hadenuf
How the hell can he kick it? If he's truly in as much pain as he says there is no other treatment. That's it baby. Either you suffer your a.. off or you stay lit up on pain blockers. Problem is they whack out your liver and some say your hearing. But that's all the docs know to do when surgery cannot correct the problem. It's called pain management and it's prescribed for constantly.
To: Skooz
I have never heard Rush condemn drug users or say they should be sent to prison. Great point.
To: Tribune7
Actually, what's funny is the idea that so many think physical pain is irrelvant to one's quality of life.Remove the ridiculous pain excuse and Rush is still a drug addicted junkie. There are many people who suffer with pain and don't become junkies. Rush is a drug addict pure and simple. Get over it.

Cursing and praying at the same time?Creative editing on your part. I said, "Damn. Praying for the best."
"Damn" as in stunned. And I am praying for the best for Rush.
Besides, what's it to you?

Coming to this thread late (I heard the live broadcast), but I just wanted to add my voice to the declarations of love and support for El Rushbo. It's truly hurt to see the media piling on and on and on and on over the past two weeks.... but the grace, class, and dignity with which he has handled it has truly been an inspiration. Despite his protestations to the contrary, Rush Limbaugh IS a role model.... this is but the latest, but surely the most poignant, of his demonstrations on how to handle adversity bravely and with honor.
See you in 30, Rush. We're with you, buddy.

"Remove the ridiculous pain excuse..."
My jaw dropped at this. Are you SERIOUS? Pain is a ridiculous excuse now?!?

you're so brave. I bet you never sat on the couch and moaned to alleviate the pain until the meds kicked in? Or initiated the urination process with a partially blocked ureter by whistling through your clenched teeth. I love you tough guys.
To: arete
Remove the ridiculous pain excuse . . . May you never learn otherwise.

"AA wasn't even started until 1934."

Whether you abuse drugs for a physical pain or an emotional or psychological pain, you are still a drug user.
No distinctions.

HEAR, HEAR...I'll be there when he comes back.Me too. I doubt he'll lose his "base" over this.

Sean Hannity just made reference to a remark Sen. John Kerry said about Rush last night in the debate. Anyone know what Kerry said about Rush????
To: MNLDS
What did he say?
"Rush is bringing the pills, Bill is bringing the girls, Teddy's the designated driver."
someting like that?

I don't know why...but I somehow that statement seems appropriate right now.
