How the hell can he kick it? If he's truly in as much pain as he says there is no other treatment. That's it baby. Either you suffer your a.. off or you stay lit up on pain blockers. Problem is they whack out your liver and some say your hearing. But that's all the docs know to do when surgery cannot correct the problem. It's called pain management and it's prescribed for constantly.

He can kick it. There are non-narcotic pain relievers that might help alleviate his pain. If he goes to a reputable pain management clinic, he'll learn different physical and mental excercises he can do to help control the pain.
They also are making strides in surgical remedies for back pain.
Since I suffer from chronic pain due to a 3 level neck fusion, I pay particular attention to news items about new technologies. There's a new procedure being tested for lower back pain which involves a metal replacement with a kind of pivot. This procedure hasn't been approved for the general public yet but they've had good results on the test subjects they've used it on.
What makes this new procedure interesting to me is the fact that unlike a fusion, you still retain mobility. With a fusion there is rigidity and the muscles have to help compensate one's mobility.
