And today wacky tabackky. Rush had the courage to admit his problem to millions of people.
Not like your hero, Bill Clinton, who pointed his finger at me, with his co-President Hillary by his side and say,
"I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky".No lying Bump

Do you think the feds will confiscate his property soon?
Where do you think he's taking rehab? I'd guess it's out of the country.
To: Bluntpoint
that's right bud. a drug user. the problem with medicine is they need to do followup treatment in the lucky cases where the pain abates through successful surgery.
Today these docs just pat themselves on the back and move to the next carcass. Meanwhile the guy who was seeing double with pain a month ago is left to his own devices to see how he can get rid of the need for that lovin' feeling when he no longer technically needs the dope. someone will make bank when they figure out how to block/reverse the psych need.
To: Fred Mertz
Why would they confiscate his property? He hasn't been charged with anything.

Thx for showing I was right. Ping me next time you post my name.
I wish Rush the best.

Exactly! I've suffered through many kidney stones. My brother actually passed out with one (you know, Mr. Tough Guy). In fact I ended up having to have parathryoid surgery to combat them. At one time I was passing stones on a weekly basis. The urologist put me on OxyContin for this and my pharmacist informed me of the addicting nature of this medication. I contacted my doctor and he put me on a different pain medication. There, but for the grace of God go I!

This is the same route politicians, movie stars, public figures use as escape from bad publicity. Of course... there is no other 'escape'. Rush came clean and is going to get himself clean. I wish him well and eagerly look forward to his return.

He admitted this within a reasonable time period from when it was first reported by the Enquirer. Uh, he admitted it when he got CAUGHT !
This isn't some teary-eyed first timer admitting the error of this ways. This is a HYPOCRITE who owes all his fellow dopers an apology !

We are seeing how compassionate the LEFT will be.
Hillary and the rest just don't get it, because most Americans do. We support the people of Iraq, we want a better life for them, we support our President. We support Rush.
Compassion seems to be something that only people with heart have.

Private matter, but a public figure.
This stuff goes with the territory.

Sorry - Doctors today and in the past have given subscriptions with sufficient refills to addict many folks. Possibly he should not have spoken about drug users for so long that all should be behind bars! However, as a drug rehab professional, I have seen this too many times created by the medical community - then they cut them off. I assume this is what happened to Rush.

He can kick it. There are non-narcotic pain relievers that might help alleviate his pain. If he goes to a reputable pain management clinic, he'll learn different physical and mental excercises he can do to help control the pain.
They also are making strides in surgical remedies for back pain.
Since I suffer from chronic pain due to a 3 level neck fusion, I pay particular attention to news items about new technologies. There's a new procedure being tested for lower back pain which involves a metal replacement with a kind of pivot. This procedure hasn't been approved for the general public yet but they've had good results on the test subjects they've used it on.
What makes this new procedure interesting to me is the fact that unlike a fusion, you still retain mobility. With a fusion there is rigidity and the muscles have to help compensate one's mobility.

It has been years since I read but I bleieve the first felowship was Ebby with Bill in the hospital in 34. Granted Bill and Bob didn't meet until 35. So I guess you are correct. AA was founded in 35. I will get out the books!

You stated Rush was lucky, becoming addicted to pain medication doesn't sound like luck to me. Not everyone who takes it becomes addicted.
From his statement it sounded like he still has back and neck pain from some failed surgery to correct the problem. Having known a few people with such problems, they don't get better with time.
I am not afraid to see the "moral equivalence", I reject it. For the reasons stated, and which are obvious on their face. Not sure why you wish to try and make the case. Perhaps we are talking at cross purposes. I do think addiction is addiction, regardless of who is the person addicted. Perhaps that is what you are referring to.
The part I probably differ with you is in taking into account how a person became addicted. One by choice, the other an unfortunate outcome. I hope you can discern the difference.
As for "all those inner city addicts who are rotting in our jails", I pity them for their addictions, but not the non-drug related crimes that landed them in jail.

I have never heard Rush condemn drug users or say they should be sent to prison. Perhaps you haven't listened to him as much as I have. I've heard it a LOT of times.

No, you completely missed
my point.
Bennett made a career of condemning other people's pleasures, such as drugs or sex, while indulging in his preferred pleasure.
I don't think gambling is a "sin"; I do think hypocrisy is, especially when it is so public.
BTW, the Church doesn't condemn gambling because gambling has historically been very profitable for the church-ever heard of bingo games?
