Two reasons for the lack of sympathy. First, the vast majority of those in prison on drug charges took the drugs to get high, not because they had a pain problem. Second, most of them have robbed or mugged or hurt other people in their quest to get high.

But I do wonder why all this sympathy for rich, white, Republican junkie, and utter indifference to the plight of all those others caught up in our insane and inane drug laws? I think most people would like everyone who has an addiction to overcome it. As for jail, most drug addicts who end up there, do so for other crimes, i.e. theft, DUI, etc. I am one who doesn't believe drugs should be any more illegal than our most favorite recreational drug, alcohol.
I don't think it is too surprising that those who have listened to Rush for years, myself since the first Persian Gulf War, should have more sympathy for him than for others who we have never heard of.
I certainly wish Rush the very best in overcoming his drug addiction, and will be waiting to listen to him once again upon his return to the golden mic.

Bullshit ~ I've been clean and sober since October 26, 1975! Those who know nothing about addiction are always an authority on the subject. Congratulations on your sobriety. I made my decision March 3, 1993.

Looks like they may be running Rush's statement on Fox instead of the usual Shep-Hannity interchange, unless Hannity comes up next.

And the WAR ON DRUGS claims another victim. Yep. I don't know how so many people can defend Rush and dump on anti-WoD people at the same time. Does Rush going to jail for this make sense to anybody? He won't. But that's only because users rarely face vigorous prosecution, especially when they're rich and influential. Somebody with less money faceing a feistier DA could end up behind bars for the exact same thing.

This has become my favorite photo of RUSH. Laughing in the face of advercity. I have no doubt RUSH will overcome this and become all the much stronger for it. GOD Bless you RUSH and MARTA!!

Blackie stated: I've been clean and sober since October 26, 1930.
Are you sure about that date (73 years ago).....and are you perhaps one of our elder Freepers?

If he's guilty of a crime, he should do his time. Just like every other junkie out there.
The problem is NOT the drug laws but the DRUGS themselves.

Thanks for responding. What an unbelieveably TACKY thing to say, especially for a presidential candidate. Even a French one!

"I've pooh-poohed the stories that this medication can cause deafness. I am now willing to revisit, rethink and re-investigate."Here is what a medical website says about that:
"Doctors aren't yet entirely sure how Vicodin causes hearing loss. One theory is that the opiates damage the delicate hair cells inside the inner ear, which act like tiny microphones to transmit sound vibrations to the brain. The effect also may involve nerve endings in the ear called opioid receptors, which are sensitive to overstimulation."
