Uh, prescription drugs are not from the same original suppliers as street drugs. Try to keep up.
Oh they aren't? Tell the kids hooked on OC in Kentucky that.
And extending your logic, pot comes from mainly rural growers that have nothing to do with terrorism. But that doesn't stop them from being protrayed as being buddy buddy with bin Laden.

Actually, I was concerned about you. I thought I had detected a severe air leak from your head.

I'm not refering to street level dealers, I'm refering to the original source.
You get a street drug like cocaine or something (sorry if I'm not up on the latest fad) which originates from outside the U.S. and you run the risk that the profits are doing something more neferious than building villas in Colombia.
You get OC illegally, it's still not coming from those overseas terrorist-linked (potentially) sources.
The kid in Kentucky still has the same problem, no minimizing that, just saying there's a difference in how it relates to the ads that were mentioned.
And I'm not defending the validity of the ads either, just point out the difference.

There are many people who suffer with pain and don't become junkies. Rush is a drug addict pure and simple. Get over it. I understand what you are saying, but let me ask you a question: Have you ever suffered from cluster headaches?

This is sick, but I was thinking that if Clinton ever got into a 12-step program, could you imagine what HIS 9th step would look like????!!!!!!

Rush lawyered up to know what he was dealing with. ANY smart person would get a lawyer to find out what they are dealing with. I doubt very much rush knew the first thing about how these cases are prosectuted. (rarely) or what he was facing (FL firtt time drug offender court which mandates treatment in exchange for a dismissal).
I agree with the speculation but remember when u assume...
To: truth_seeker
actually getting back in the saddle with work is good therapy. Its part of the treatment.
Rush's addiction also has medical issues which must be addressed.

I understand -- my dad (my hero) is agnostic. 'Though I can assure you (even though I generally do *not* evangelize) that it wasn't me. :)
Actually, I fit several symptoms of having depression - I am more of a hermit than anyone I know, and can be obsessive compulsive (like posting!) But I'm not -sad- in any way. Is my isolation physiological? Dunno. But I refuse to go take a drug for it. I should get out of the house more, I can always do so, and it's up to me to make that happen. I'm not going to blame a chemical imbalance on it.
I agree some people turn to the soma vacation at the slightest provocation -- but I also believe some people don't get medical help when it's needed. Trying to cure a physiological depression by your bootstraps doesn't work -- anymore than trying to cure diabetes that way would. Unconventional behavior is not depression -- heck, now I'm fine, yet I'm a hermit and spend too much time here posting:-) When you're depressed, trust me, you know it -- no need to check the symptom list.
I respect Rush, too -- I was confident that he would be honest about this, and indeed he was.

What did Rush say about Noelle Bush? I think it was something supportive.
To: ellery

If he has pain, and needs the drugs for pain, its no different then someone who needs drugs for high cholesterol. Are people "addicted" to Zocor? Now, I will quickly add that in the Rush case, the quantity and the means used to obtain them are in question, but let's see what the explanation is for that. But its not like someone who uses them to get high.Your post is absolutely on-target. What's missing is that all addicts are in pain when they're not taking their drug -- it's the definition of addiction. The distinction is that one pain exists in spite of the drug, and one because of it...but if Rush is addicted, he now has both pains to deal with.
