Suggestions for a better Free Republic

I was just wondering if any of you have any suggestions for how to make Free Republic easier to use and a better place in general. This is NOT a criticism of Jim Robinson and I am most appreciative of all his hard work. This site is great and I enjoy coming here to learn about and discuss the conservative issues of the day. This is just my desire to see this site become more "viewer-friendly" than it is in its present iteration. I've had thoughts over the years about this and these are the ones that I keep coming back to:

1. Different background colors for alternating posts within a thread, for readability

2. Ability to set up chat rooms for certain events, rather than using the "Live Thread" concept. The entire idea of a "Live Thread" is somewhat of an oxymoron and EXTREMELY difficult to follow.

3. Smilies and other icons available when posting messages

4. Keeping track of numbers of posts by each user. Many forum sites do this, and some even give titles to users who reach certain posting milestones.

5. The ability to mark a thread for later reading, rather than having to "bump" the thread

Yesterday when it was learned that WILLIE BROWN has been appointed by Schwarzenegger to the transition team - and there was not a collective OUTCRY OF DISGUST by FReepers

Not only that, but Der Gropenfuhrer expressed admiration for Vincente Fox!!

Republicans wanted a Pubbie to win so badly that they took even a RINO. I'm sure they were enthralled with the fact that he is also a big movie star. Really pathetic. My only hope is that he manages to remain scandal-free while in office.

Yes I did, not that it matters. I've been lurking for 6 years and posting for 5, so my skin is about 5 inches (12.7mm) thick.

You know what I'd really like to see? Clear and consistent guidelines for posting. More than once (lots of times, in fact), I've seen articles posted by various people, myself included, then moved to chat. Then the same article posted later by someone else, and left on front page. Several times pictures are posted on one thread and immediately pulled, then posted to another thread and left up. For no clear reason that I can see. Do the Mods just have carte blanche during their times to pull at will? Really, I'm curious about this. Thanks for any response.

Yes coming from you I can relate...... only you can take a thread about suggestions to improve FreeRepublic and slam or bash the members by calling them 'traitors or something'....

1)maybe add a feature that allows posters to automatically insert a quote of the post they are replying to. As it is now, we have to scroll down to the message, copy, paste, then type in html tags around the text manually.

2)posters can edit/deleate their messages feature.
