Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"
790am KABC Radio

Posted on 10/09/2003 8:14:20 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.

But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.

My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

"Just because the Enquirer said it doesn't make it so." Tell that to a lawyer.

The above statement by CA Guy is true irregardless of if you tell it to a lawyer or not.

Let me one again put this in simple words:

"Any person who possesses, views, monitors, or transfers an illegally recorded audiotape "WILL BE GUILTY OF A CLASS D CRIMINAL FELONY WITH A SENTENCE OF FIVE (5) YEARS IN PRISON"

You all can read can't you?

BTW, if you really do talk to Rush.... If you're really a good friend.... Then please tell him there are at least 365 islands off the state of Maine. If he ends up owning that rag I DEMAND he buy one of those islands and start a community of conservatives. Rush can even be the mayor. Heck, he can be KING for all I care! Just so he gets us out of this hell hole. WHO IS JOHN GALT? ;-)

I will, my friend. But I can only tune in for the first couple of hours on and off. Again, let me repeat, that I don't care if Rush is addicted or not...he has been a value to my life for many years, helping me through hard times, boring times, exciting times...I don't agree with everything he advocates, such as pro-life or pro drug-war, but I respect his optimism immensely and his love of life...his commitment to truth, the fact that out of 12 novels he recommends, two are by my heroine, Ayn Rand, etc. etc...So tell him to bring back Al Shanklin already!

LOL - I don't know anyplace warmer except the Caribbean. I figured he'd prefer to remain in the US. (Wouldn't it be cool if we could get a nuke? Then we could make demands on the mainland, LOL!)

"If it isn't true, Rush will own the Enquirer." Mike Walker, Editor They're not bluffing.

If the allegation is false and the Enquirer is not purposefully false then the above statement is not a bluff AND YET STILL, the Enquirer allegation is not true.

Join 24/7, Westerner. I listened a couple of weeks ago and Big Al was on the audio when the show goes to commercials.

There will be now charges brought against Rush nor a lawsuit against the Enquirer IMO!

Alcoholism/addiction is a progressive disease that will get worse over time. I venture to say that unless your friend stops his "after hours" drinking, he will eventually become a full blown alcoholic. The progressiveness of addictive diseases then takes over the alcoholic/addicts life, leading them unable to function and conduct normal tasks, such as keeping a job, etc. If the addiction does not stop, the person will die and many of them do.

I am not a toxicologist, but some time ago, I worked for a large drug testing lab and visited many drug rehabilitation centers throughout the country. Drug addiction is ugly and it destroys lives, families, careers, everything. I have heard stories that would break your heart.

OxyContin is a very powerful narcotic which has a time release component that provides pain relief of up to twelve hours. That's why it has become so popular with addicts; because they can keep their high/effect for a longer period of time. Some people refer to it as heroin in a pill form.

I agree with Nachum, Rush does not fit the profile for an addict. There is no way that Rush would have been able to perform in the high calibre that he has if he were addicted to this drug. I am not talking about a mispronounciation of words or a slur here or there. (which we all do when we are either stressed or doing too much in our lives, especially as we age.) The effect of this drug would have been so obvious, that he would have had all of us calling him to see what was wrong. Also, he would never been able to keep up the personal appearance and travel schedule that he has.

This is just my opinion based upon my experience.
