Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"
790am KABC Radio

Posted on 10/09/2003 8:14:20 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.

But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.

My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

How much is is "pretty strong"? is it 30 doses in a day?

Well, without getting into specifics, he takes 9 pills a day (3x3). When I had a bad toothache a while back, I took a half of just one of his pills. It knocked both the pain and me out within an hour. So he's essentially taking at least 18 times more than I can handle.

There is a change in self perception that is at the root of all addictions.

Not necessarily. It really depends on the reason the pills were being taken in the first place. I'm sure my husband is probably addicted to his pain-killers. That's never been a problem though because he doesn't take the stuff to get high. He takes it the same way other people take their heart medications or whatever else they have to take every day. That doesn't mean he's not addicted though.

You, your brand new account and your smarmy Freepmail are full of crap.
If Rush is paying you, he's even dumber than I thought.

Great post, Cinnamon Girl. I care about Rush also, and wish him well.

There was a woman from the National Enquirer who appeared earlier today on Fox News with (I think) Brigitte Quinn. They also discussed the Rush/drug story, and it sure left me feeling uneasy.

I know this has been brought up before on other threads, but how on earth could Rush be so on top of his game every day, while downing "30+ pills a day"?

I'm not sure wich is worse, people like you who assume he has a drug problem, or people who assume he doesn't. Quiet frankly I am leaning on the former as the winner of the 'I'm an idiot' award.

Folks shouldn't assume the worst without positive proof. If the enquirer is considered proof for you, well I hope Batboy doesn't move into your neighborhood any time soon. If he does, the alien space ships will come and use you for expirementation. I know this because that's what your horoscope says.

I say this as someone who thinks you care about people and things other than the Limbaughs.

I believe it was the past 4 years, allegedly.

The Nat'l Enquirer would not risk the liability of a total fabrication. Yet the accusations don't pass the smell test.

I haven't read any of the details. Someone who has please describe a scenario in which what the Enquirer published is technically true, yet Rush is innocent; i.e. he had nothing personally to do with the drugs being bought and sold in his household.

For example, after the surgery, I understand Rush did have to take a heck of a lot of painkillers. Maybe he did have to detox a couple of times. I am not one who thinks he could not have performed his show while popping. OK, so he kicks it and is good as new. But meanwhile, a few whole sets of slimeballs move in to do some dirt to our boy.

Picture a David Lynch film with evil genius operatives behind the scenes and lowlifes operating on the scene.

Listen tomorrow and you will get what you need to move on.

Like I said I will tune in tomorrow, mostly because of your prompting this evening.

I think Rush is guilty of being human as I've said before. I don't have a problem with that.

Please be patient with some of the FReepers here... We have our share of cynics. And please tell Rush how much we love him. This is so much crap and I personally blame the libs. This is TYPICAL of how those people operate!

Ok, Liberty. Thanks for telling us. Rush does not have to defend himself to us. He has offered us so much value over the years, that we should be in his debt...and let me say about Al Rantel--how low...it's one thing for Howard Stern to interview Mike Walker--Howard has accomplished his own success in life...but for small time talk show hosts to exploit this story about Rush for the ratings--sickening.

A few additional things about this that don't make sense:
Why is a drug dealer going to the police with evidence of drug dealing unless the police are making a deal with them to catch a bigger fish?

Why are the police making a deal with a dealer to catch a user or is there some other connection here that tied Rush into this besides the maid?

My guess is the investigation will be dropped with no charges filed against Rush. Rush can deny all he wants and the liberals will continue to prefix his name with alleged drug-abuser. Rush can sue but that could take years.
