Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"
790am KABC Radio

Posted on 10/09/2003 8:14:20 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.

But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.

My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

Rush would have to show willful and malicious conduct.

This would mean extensive discovery: regarding how the story was sold, who talked to whom, was sidney blumenthal involved, who was the lawyer representing and when, did they call rush to verify, did they contact the state, what is in the email, did they make efforts to confirm.

You are right about the BS trying to bootstrap the allegation. Its a question of the lie. This potential lie is so outragious it must be true.

Perhaps the enquirer is scared...

Okay, you gotta' do the "clinton" and parse his words. He said "If we're wrong Rush can own us" or something like that. Some drug dealing house cleaner TOLD the Nat. Enq. that Rush did this and that. So, the Nat. Enq. isn't wrong.

Hopefully Rush will sue in Federal and not state court. FL state courts can be a bit of a bordello.

"What bothers me most is that Rushbo allegedly paid hush money. And he relied/trusted lawyers to do his bidding. Very Clintonesque...."

I don't know if you're a Rush fan or not, I'm not nor am I a listener. So I don't really have a stake in this one way or another.

Looking at it from an outside POV, here's why I think this whole thing stinks.

1. The very idea that someone in Rush's position would be buying pills from a maid is laughable. Like I posted earlier, people with money can get all the scripts they want.

2.People like Rush know that whatever happens in front of the hired help might as well happen in front of a reporter.

3. The klintoon clan has despised Rush for many years. You can bet they have been watching him like a hawk for any little crumb they can discredit him with. If he really had an addiction like is being claimed, it would've surfaced before now and in a bigger publication than the enquirer, with a lot more evidence.

If Rush really had a pill addiction, the klintoon gang would've had their DEA buds set up a sting and bust him. More damaging and convincing than an enquirer story.

I had to take oxycontin and hydrocodone a couple of years ago after surgery. I took 4 to 6 a day and I was drowsy, had slurred speech and in no condition to even read a book. There is no way I could have talked on the radio for 3 hours without the whole country thinking I was drunk at the very least. Nor, could I have done ANY of the prep necessary to do a show like Rush does every day.

That's because you didn't build up a tolerance, meaning you simply weren't used to the pills. My husband takes multiple narcotic pills daily, pretty strong doses, and has been for years. The medicine in no way makes him feel high. He functions just fine.

People keep talking as though being addicted to pills means a person must be walking around in a stupor all day. That may sometimes be true for addicts who started taking the medicine for the purpose of getting buzzed. More often though, it's avoidance of withdrawal rather buzz-seeking that keeps an addict addicted.

I'd like to believe your scenario, but Rush is human. His silence is deafening.

no signs of his career going away anytime soon.....unless he is actually charged.

the accusations might actually ENHANCE his standing among the right.

The charges are false and have no basis or truth.

I wish you were spot on the money, but you're very mistaken.

I have spoken at length with Rush over the past week and unfortunately you are wrong!

Okay, I've changed my mind.

The "seriousness of the charges" are bothersome to you, aren't they.

I agree with you, ambrose. And Rush sounded better today than I've heard him sound in a long time. He was talking about a Representive Republic and the pros and cons of the initiative process. The only negative thing I can say about Rush is that I miss the homeless update (the frog man) and all the musical satires by Paul Shanklin.

Good research.

Without a judge signed court ordered warrant everyone who touches the illegally made tape is automatically a criminal felon.

The Enquirer and housekeeper and prosecutor have all "confessed" publicly to having had possession of an illegally made audiotape.

The housekeeper and the National Enquirer are further co-conspirators in a for-profit criminal enterprise.

Conspiracy to commit a felony for openers and it expands from there.

Between that evidence and Attorney Black they are all in deep gooey stuff.

And for all those FReepers her on this thread saying Rush needs no attorney and should speak up 100% :

I hope to make some big bucks facing you in court one day.

Don't count on these low bid state prosecutors having any political futures.

I am constantly amazed by the lack of legal horsesense of so many attorneys.

It is always smart to open the actual statutes and read them before committing suicide.

All cases brought involving "fruit of the poisoned tree" evidence are doomed to failure.

A nutty prosecutor that attempts such BS may hang himself/herself within a few years.

Well, somebody always has to be the loser in a horserace.

Strict scutiny applies in CT.

"WILL" be guilty of a Class D criminal felony offense.

Not "MAY" be guilty......

"Nail stapler?"

In the exhibit fabrication business, we build everything out of 3/4" birch plywood. Staples hold better and bust out less in plywood than nails do.
