But not because he's too old. Pepper, 31, believes companies won't hire him because he's too young. Someone ought to tell Jeremy that 31 ain't that young. He's begining his prime earning years. Maybe he can't get hired because he has no discernable job skills.

I guess I'm getting old. In my day is was lack of experience, now it's age discrimination.
More whining from the generation that never had to struggle for anything.

Me, I'm thinking of getting a facelift, a tummy-tuck, and liposuction before applying for work.
LOL....I'm kidding....I'm a kidder....

"Workers such as Richard Celler, 29, say their youth has been held against them. Two years ago, the Miami lawyer was covering a hearing on a major matter for a big client. The courtroom was packed. When Celler rose to argue his case, the judge put up his hand and stopped him. "Is it bring-your-kids-to-work day?" the judge joked, then asked Celler if his dad would be arguing the motion."
An elderly client of mine was meeting with me in my office afew days ago. He said to me, "So I hear you're almost a lawyer." When I asked him what he meant, he said, "Well, you're obviously too young to be a lawyer." I smiled and told him that I was admitted to practice in four states. You just can't let this stuff bother you.

No, you must have misread the article. This guy's from GenX, not the Baby Boom generation.

Younger workers are experiencing career stalemate as graying baby boomers become reluctant to retire. There is the problem. Spendthrift greedy geezers who won't pass the torch...

"Old People Say Age Holds Them Back"
To: chookter
We need a law forcing old people (that would include me) to retire or go to jail! This would give opportunities to young people.
But I do want young people to become tax slaves so I can get increased social security, medicare, drugs so forth. Seems only fair!

Yer effed if yer too young (inexperienced). Yer effed if yer too old (overqualified). Yer just the right age if'n yer name is Gupta.
If'n yer an American, STFU and die. Yer of no value to anyone.
Sincerely, Ayn Rand

I can agree with you, but they do have a right to keep working. Doesn't mean we can't resent it though.
I know of 3 specific instances in my office where we have employees over 75 who are double dipping while others are laid off simply because "it's boring staying at home". Well, I say go volunteer for something.
People are laid off right now in my office and these guys are working. Part of the reason is that they are on their wives health plans...yes, their wives work too. That means the company isn't having to pay any health bennies for them. Again something that is a business decision and within their right.
Still, it's hard to swallow sometimes.
It doesn't help when you chance to hear one mention that his check is what's paying off the $80,000 RV.
GOP_Proud...who is saving every nickle so younger people won't feel toward me what I feel toward these guys.

Jeremy should quit his whining and consider the fact that maybe older folks need the jobs more than he does to subsidize their depleted retirement accounts.
He should also get up every morning, face mecca and praise Allah for the fact he owns his own business.
He should also hook up with that Patricia.....she sounds cute.
To: Mini-14
It could also pave the way for more lawsuits from people in their 20s and 30s saying they've been discriminated against because they're young.Umm .. hey kid! Ever hear of experience?
I have 27 years experience in my field. Show me a 21 year old who can say that!

Darn right! After we finish cleaning up after the Boomers, I think deserve whatever dregs we can cobble together! ;^)

Congratulations, you got your wish. When you started working, I'll bet you were fully vested for Social Security purposes several months into the year. Now, with the SS cap at around $84,000, few workers are fully vested. Today's young workers are paying SS tax on more of their incomes than ever, and for benefits that few of us will ever see.

But I'm planning to do the same thing ---- why retire? My grandfather kept a full time job until he was 84. My dad is still working in his 70's full time ---except when he's not traveling around in the nice expensive RV he can afford because he's still working and doesn't have any mortgage payments or kids to support now.
