[history]
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the bodybuilder and actor turned politician, promised to call the leaders of the Democrat-controlled legislature to convince them they must work together to cut spending and close the state's $8 billion budget deficit.
Schwarzenegger unseated Governor Gray Davis in a recall election yesterday. Both men pledged to cooperate during the transition after an election campaign that included allegations by 15 women of sexual misconduct by Schwarzenegger and charges of incompetence and ``terminating hope'' by Schwarzenegger's campaign against the incumbent Davis.

Unless it's rope a dope - the public has just witnessed the smear campaign to end all smear campaigns. It's a given that the dims will continue to dig their hole deeper by obstructing, accusing etc. Arnold seems to be practicing the new tone.

Hmmm...the same famous words that came from Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott and George W. Bush over the years.
They all got kicked in the teeth, I wonder why Arnold thinks he can get them to follow him.
Cave, thy name is Republican.

Schwarzenegger Pledges to End Acrimony With Democrats. The best way to do this would to be announce that the problems are so severe there is no time to waste dealing with the Dems, and simply submit everything he wants to do as an referendem item at the next election. Tax Cuts, wholesale elimination of agencies, spending reductions, a complete house cleaning. Put it up for the citizens vote. If it fails...then bankrupcy.

I suspect Arnie's handlers will let him in on that fact. However, it's always good for public consumption to make these kinds of conciliatory statements.

Don't worry about Arnold. He's not a wuss and can take care of himself very well.

Give what a rest? Stop learning lessons from past performance?
You obviously don't agree that everytime the Republicans have reached their hands across the aisle they have had it bitten off.

What I was trying to tell you was that it is a time to celebrate. Tomorrow the war goes on.
You must be a Puritan. You know the definition of a Puritan, don't you?
A Puritan is someone who is desparately worried that somewhere, somehow, someone is having a good time!
