>>>>>The Democratic Party is opposed to tax cuts. Is this a matter of principled concern for the fiscal health of the United States, or is it because "the people" that dominate the party platform the teachers' unions; the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees; and opponents of Social Security reform all feed from the government trough?
That just about cuts through all their BS with one sharp cleaver.

I'm with you, Murd (I mean, Drum). You know, I'm an economist who has studied the philosophy of science fairly rigorously and I have never heard about "type C, M" arguments or any other of these things (although anything that discredits an idiot like Krugman can't be all bad).
Why do economists try to make so needlessly complicated something that is so simple? No wonder my profession is shrinking by the day.
To: mywholebodyisaweapon
I think of Krugman as an over-fed, squalling little brat who chucks hand-fulls of Gerber at the walls until someone gives him his way just to shut him up.

Or as Democratic Party Founder TJ would have put it. "The government that governs best, governs least."

Right. So why is Luskin so defensive about it?
To: liberallarry
He's too intimidated by the mainstream media. I wish he'd go after Krugman with a truncheon and seriously beat his deracinated arguments to death once and for all.

Or putting it another way...
Liberals want to feed the beast as a way taking money from those who have it and giving to to those who don't...
Conservatives want to starve the beast because they believe that it is hopelessly corrupt, inefficient, counterproductive, and unfair.
So why is Luskin so defensive about it?

Luskin is correcting the lies of Krugman.
And doing a great job. He's nailed it absolutely right.
Krugman calls it "lying" when people dare to have policy disagreements with him. He takes it all personally.
IF you think Luskin should be advocating something, ask him.
I dont see that its his job to fit your stereotype.
Luskin is on a mission to be the 'Truth detector squad' on Krugman. He's been a market commentator also, but has no particular axe to grind, except 'what will the market do next?'
If you want to hear a great Conservative economist opine, read Sowell. Or for free market comments: guest editorials in the WSJ; Or Carolyn Baum, Arthur Laffer, etc.

What stereotype is that?
If you want to hear a great Conservative economist opine, read Sowell
One of my favorites...although I'm not familiar with his later work.

I'll put it more bluntly
Like him or not Krugman is big League. Luskin is a tire-biter.

your stereotype is that anyone who thinks Krugman is a lying partisan hack must be a free-market conservative.
On the contrary, even an honest liberal can see Krugman for the lying partisan hack that he is.
(for proof of "lies" claim I refer you to Luskin's copious documentation of it.)

Krugman has a small mind, far smaller than Luskin's.
Krugman has a 'big league' platform because the NYTimes gives it to liberal shills. Most of their columnists are vapid ranters, Krugman's no exception.

(for proof of "lies" claim I refer you to Luskin's copious documentation of it.)
I looked at Luskin's stuff when I was arguing with him. I think he's a nit-picker and mote-magnifier. A tire-biter, as I said.

Please. Even you can't believe that. They chose him because he had great credentials which they believed would make him effective in a very limited, specialized arena. That he's turned into PAUL KRUGMAN DREADED NEMESIS OF THE RIGHT is entirely due to his extraordinary talents.
