Or putting it another way...

Liberals want to feed the beast as a way taking money from those who have it and giving to to those who don't...
Conservatives want to starve the beast because they believe that it is hopelessly corrupt, inefficient, counterproductive, and unfair.

So why is Luskin so defensive about it?

Luskin is correcting the lies of Krugman.
And doing a great job. He's nailed it absolutely right.
Krugman calls it "lying" when people dare to have policy disagreements with him. He takes it all personally.

IF you think Luskin should be advocating something, ask him.
I dont see that its his job to fit your stereotype.

Luskin is on a mission to be the 'Truth detector squad' on Krugman. He's been a market commentator also, but has no particular axe to grind, except 'what will the market do next?'

If you want to hear a great Conservative economist opine, read Sowell. Or for free market comments: guest editorials in the WSJ; Or Carolyn Baum, Arthur Laffer, etc.
