(CNSNews.com)- Voters in California chose to replace Democrat Gov. Gray Davis with Republican candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger during Tuesday's recall election.
Even though many analysts had predicted the outcome would be close and 2 million absentee ballots had yet to be counted, most major news organizations called the election within minutes after polls in the Golden State closed at 8 p.m. PDT.
Early results showed that more than 55 percent of Californians voted to remove Davis, while less than 45 percent voted against the recall.
By losing the Oct. 7 election, Davis becomes the second governor in the U.S. to be recalled. The first was Lynn Frazier of North Dakota, who was removed from office in 1921.
The second part of the recall ballot dealt with who should take Davis's place as governor, and early results indicated that about half of the voters selected Schwarzenegger, while about one-third supported Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.
Coming in third during early tabulations was state Senator Tom McClintock, who remained in the recall race even though many officials in his party feared the conservative Republican might split the anti-Davis vote.
Peter Camejo of the Green party was projected to come in a distant fourth.
The fate of Gov. Davis wasn't the only item on the recall ballot. A majority of voters rejected Proposition 54, which would bar state and local governments from collecting most data on race, religion and ethnicity.

The biggest loser of the night may very well be the LA Times. They've probably lost thousands of subscriptions as a result of their thinly-disguised political bias over the last couple of weeks, and they don't have anything to show for it.

Nice thing is that the margin of victory should preclude any court action. (I know, I know, it's the Demorats we are talking about, still...)

Yep, just heard Paul Begala on CNN saying something about that.
Any time the demo-ratz are crying, I am a happy Pubbie!
And, I'll bet Daschle is saddened, saddened!

My Predictions:
1. Schwarzeneger will excel as California's Governor;
2. Bush wins 2004 Presidential election for including California;
3. Arnold faces Hildebeast in 2008 in Presidential election and is victorious!
