Eminently wrong on imminent threat. FNC's Brit Hume pointed out Monday night how, despite frequent media claims that President Bush cited the "imminent threat" from Saddam Hussein's Iraq as justification for going to war, "in fact, President Bush has publicly said just the opposite."
On the October 6 Special Report with Brit Hume, during the "Grapevine" segment, Hume observed: "The Associated Press says it. Reuters says it, the New York Times says it repeatedly. Senator Levin says it, so does Senator Rockefeller. What they all say is that the Bush administration claimed, as a justification for going to war in Iraq, that Saddam Hussein posed a quote, 'imminent threat.' In fact, President Bush has publicly said just the opposite, most conspicuously is his State of the Union address last January."
Bush in the State of the Union address: "Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late."

I remember a poster ran a story with those headlines and I commented the President never said the war was over. The New York Times reported, as did many others in the "Old Media", that the President landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and declared the war was over.
Frank Salvato in American Daily wrote "this is factually incorrect and in actuality a blatant lie". "President Bush declared correctly that 'major military operations' were over in Iraq; but there are several phases to any military operation he wrote and 'major operations' is just one of them."

Like your screenname - it is a ferocious uphill battle to fight the truth decay in the lamestream media.
That awful woman representative from DC has been on Greta's show the last two nights screaming over and over that very talking point "Bush said the threat was imminent". Greta didn't bother to correct her.
I guess we should have let Saddam continue on until the missles were in the air - don't the dims know they are sounding more and more like Saddam-defenders?

Hume calls the media on a LOT of stuff -- things you'd never see covered elsewhere.
"Special Report" IS MUST-SEE TV!

Brit's my favorite. Also appreciate Neil Cavuto and Tony Snow. O' Reilly's a blowhard. Greta's a muskrat. Staying nice to others, some of which are marginally +/- deserving.

Brit Hume is the single reason I wanted FNC. The others are great, but Brit was the sole reason. He is terrific, and when he is off on Fridays, I find any replacement 2nd rate. His droll humor is, of course, wonderful, and when he cuts off Mara or Juan, I love it!! But just his whole demeanor and intelligence is worth the whole Fox channel. Best thing he ever did was to leave ABC. IMMHO.

"The Associated Press says it. Reuters says it, the New York Times says it repeatedly. Senator Levin says it, so does Senator Rockefeller. More of the moderate press needs to print in large fonts of why these papers/press deliberately lied, just as they claim that Bush lied.

The DEMO-RATS believe what the Nazis contended: Tell a lie often enough, through the Commie controled press. Back the lie up by force over and over then the public takes it as TRUTH. This is exactly what the Rats have done with this lieing false statement. I hope Bret continues to pound this statement over and over

Regardless of what anyone said or didn't say, Hussein actually was an imminent threat. I read Kay's report today and it is clear Hussein continued many weapons programs and was waiting to go into full production after sanctions were lifted, something, by the way, that was being pushed at the U.N.
Also, anytime you have Hussein buying weapons from NK, I would say that represents an imminent threat.

The demons won't be happy until America fails in Iraq and Afghanistan. But, since we have a great Commander in Chief, he will not let that happen, thus the demons will still be complaining that all is a failure, but nobody will believe them. Remember what is good for America, is bad for the demoncraptic party. Weather you are talking the stock market or war.
