LIFE IS CHEAP IN OLD EUROPE -- Contraindications Of The Euro-style Nanny State
ICONOCLAST ^ | WILLIAM GRIM

Posted on 10/07/2003 4:04:39 PM PDT by Apolitical

Last week the French government announced that the final death toll from the August heat wave was a little over 14,000. This is a shocking statistic by any stretch of the imagination and is reminiscent of something one would expect to hear coming from an African kleptocracy and not from the self-styled most civilized nation on Earth. What is even more shocking is the relative indifference of the French population to the deaths of so many of their fellow countrymen......

Although the state of medical care in France and Germany is on a level with the United States, the state of popular medical lore is still back at the stage of leeches and bodily humors."

Thanks, I really enjoyed this article. I'm surprised, however, that it claims the state of medical care in France & Germany is on level with the U.S.A. How can it be that medical care in socialist countries are equivalent? Do you, or others believe this to be true?

That number was a phony estimate trumped up by socialist bureaucrats too lazy to count the actual number of deaths.

Too bad, you might even have gotten a reader or two and/or a hit or two had you posted the whole article.

Or are you expecting kick backs for hits on your link?

<< This is a shocking statistic by any stretch of the imagination and is reminiscent of something one would expect to hear coming from an African kleptocracy .... >>

Which makes reasonable and appropriate the fact it IS coming from an African kleptocracy.

One whose effectively-mercenary 'military,' state-operated 'corporations' and former-colonial surrogates continue to this day to prolifically loot and to mass-murder Africa and Africans.

I am so sick of hearing the leftists in this country exclaim over the wonders and superiority of the Euros. They live in tiny flats - homeownership is rare - they don't have air- conditioning and they leave on their lengthy socialist vacations and let their old folks die - yeah - sounds like paradise, all right.

My brother lived in Belgium for four years and married a Belgian woman who chose to take the government dole rather than work, telling me she would only make a little bit more if she worked for a living because of the taxes. Socialism doesn't work - it is completely against human nature.

Evidently the distance between cradle and grave is not so very great.

Within one week, Fox News interviewed a french newsman who insisted the death toll was closer to 15,000.

He turned out to be correct, but the media in france is almost as corrupt as the LA/NY Times.

Great post, very interesting. Grim is a very appropriate name for the author!

I didn't know the Euros were that backward in their attitudes, although I guess it is much cooler there than here, which I also didn't know until this year, but still, scarves when it's 80 degrees?!?!?

My kid is studying European History, I sent this on to her to show her how little things have changed there.

No-one should pick on folks who dress warmly in the summers. We have seniors in the family with severe heart and circulatory problems. They can be cold even in the heat.

They always say that until they visit the U.S. and actually see how we live here. I've got relatives there who changed their tunes really fast after a visit here.

Too bad every American can't be made to spend at least a few weeks out of the country at least once in their lifetime. Nothing like it for giving an even greater appreciation of our country.

You know, I was in a discussion with someone from Europe and this ended up being the US fault, according to her. Because they never ever ever had temps that high, and we all knooooow that the US is THE cause for Global Warming, so it's the US fault that all those people died. How were they supposed to know to install AC's in the nursing homes, it never got that hot before the US ruined the world!!

I kid you not.

They don't have such comfortable lifestyles. They don't own homes and live in tiny flats and don't have air conditioning and must not have water or deodorant either given the stench in their public transportation which gets heavy usage since most don't own cars. So they get 5 weeks off a year - is that worth the rest? They dare not use their public health service doctors if they want to live ot get timely service - sheesh - they have horrible existences, IMHO.

They must need the vacation because they are living in a world of crap. I would want to leave the country for 5 weeks too if it sucked as bad as France, Germany, and Belgium.
