Apparently Leaked Exit Polling Says... Armed Prophet here, with what I believe is a major scoop, though it may not be entirely surprising.
That is, I'm hearing that early exit polling -- which includes absentees -- already shows the recall and Arnold both with "double digit" leads. (I'm a bit surprised to hear that those numbers are already being tabulated, but this is what I'm told.) Speculation is the race may be called within a few hours of the polls closing.
I obviously can't vouch for it myself -- I'm in DC -- but the source I'm hearing this from is very well-connected in state and national politics; if anybody would know this kind of thing out here, it's this person. So take this information with a bit of caution. But if I'm right, you heard it here first.
(Cross-posted -- sort of -- on Armed Prophet.)
One difference is that the Republicans nailed the Dems in Congress to Clinton...they had no way out, but to support Clinton.
I dunno.... I always thought that Republicans voted in the late afternoon / early evening when they got home from work, and the Democrats voted whenever they rolled out of bed in the late morning, early afternoon. For many Democrats, it probably depends on when the union mice in the vans come by to pile them down to the polling place.
Unless you leave for the office at 5am like I do for the stockmarket opening. I voted when it closed at 1pm.
....and then contested for weeks by Grayout Davis in the courts.
My north bay polling place was nearly empty. No waiting. This district is about 75% 'Rat.
Am I the only sicko that hears this as music to my ears? As bad as the LA Times has made the RATS look, this is like icing on the cake. Bring it on !!!
The only drawback is the delay it may cause in the transition.
That's a heck of a long wait.
Personally, I think Schwarzenegger would end up being more dangerous because he would give that handful of weak-kneed Republican "moderates" cover to help the scumbag Democrats raise taxes when Arnold "very reluctantly agrees" to raise taxes, and says things like, "This budget deficit is far worse than we were ever led to believe," and, "The economy has not turned around as quickly as we expected," and "This will only be a temporary tax increase."
With Davis or Bustamante, the Republicans would stay united and rock solid against any Democrat tax hike, just like they did last summer.
Dear MoveOn member,
Right now there's something you can do to help get out the vote in the recall election and stop Arnold Schwarzenegger from hijacking our largest state. This is a very close race and every single vote is needed. But for many voters, just finding their polling place will be a hassle as many usual polling places around the state are closed today.
Your California friends can look up where to vote by going here:
http://moveon.org/pac/recall/materials.html
Forward this email so that your friends can use the lookup form. Better yet, give a few friends a call to make sure they know where to vote. And let them know how much we're all counting on them to keep Arnold Schwarzenegger's unqualified hands off of the 5th largest economy in the world.
If you're reading this email early enough, you can catch your friends before they leave the house for work. Give them a call and tell them where to stop on the way. The online lookup forms for many areas even provide maps. You, or your friends, can access look up sites for anywhere just by going here:
http://moveon.org/pac/recall/materials.html
Take this quick action today, and you'll be very glad you did when the results come in tonight. 1.4 million people outside of California are receiving this email. There's no question, that if enough of us take this one simple action that we could be changing the outcome of this incredibly close election.
Thank you,
-- Carrie, Eli, James, Joan, Noah, Peter, Wes, and Zack The MoveOn PAC Team October 7, 20003 California Recall Election Day
