KING SALMON, Alaska - Two people were killed in an apparent bear attack near Kaflia Bay in Katmai National Park on the Alaska Peninsula, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday.

The bodies were found Monday when a pilot with Andrew Airways arrived to pick up the man and woman and take them to Kodiak, troopers said.

The pilot saw a bear, possibly on top of a body, in the camp and contacted the National Park Service in King Salmon and state troopers in Kodiak.

Park rangers encountered an aggressive bear when they arrived at the campsite and killed it. Investigators then found human remains buried by a bear near the campsite.

The victims, believed to be in their late 30s to early 40s, were from Malibu, Calif. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The remains and the entire campsite were packed out and transported to Kodiak on the Andrew Airways flight.

As the plane was being loaded, another aggressive bear approached and was killed by park rangers and troopers.

The bodies were flown to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.

If these folks from CA voted in the recall election by absentee ballot, do their ballots still count?

They counted the dead peoples votes in Chicago during the Kennedy/Nixon presidential race of 1960. Good ol' Mayor Dailey and his gang of thugs used names of dead people to steal the state from Nixon. Nixon could have called for a recount and validation, but didn't. Unlike whiner Algore, Nixon was a patriot and a gentlemen.

My guess is that Davis most resembles Al Gore in this regard. If the election is close, these two folks ballots could be in dispute! The Davis people may be checking their party affiliation now.

It is illegal to carry a firearm in any National Park. And anyone who follows that law in bear country is an idiot.

That is what I thought. And I agree about having a gun in bear country. Here in Maryland we have black bears that are starting to move into the suburbs, just like in New Jersey. Well, if you are a bow hunter, like I am, you can not carry a gun when bow hunting. Apparently a fresh deer bow-kill makes a easy meal for a black bear. Things in the Western part of the state are getting bad. Because there is no hunting season in Maryland and there is a hunting season in Pa and West Virginia there are a lot of bears in the area, causing alot of personal property and livestock damage. I have a feeling that alot of bears are being poached because of the lack of a hunting season. It is sad really.

This thread reminded me of a post from ExSoldier about the time his patrol was attacked by a bear. It's post # 75. Also his post #62 is a keeper for army guys. Two of the funniest posts I've ever read. See it here:

No, they probably weren't armed. Just another couple of democrat-votin', granola-eatin', tree-huggin', I'm-okay, you're-okay, nitwits.

Liberals - the other white meat.

Texas has the same law about carrying guns during archery season. But we don't have bears to contend with. Although several years ago I shot a doe the first week of bow season and hiked back to get the truck. When I returned, one of the haunches was eaten out by some sort of cat. Probably a big bobcat.

I try to follow all rules while in our National and state parks, but making myself an easy part of the food chain is where I draw the line.

Here in Texas, we're not allowed to kill our black bears. Between 1700-1900, apparently they were Texan's favorite food, it seems, because of their grease for cooking, and we nearly obliterated them.

We are free to kill all the mountain lions we wish, though.

Yeah, we are not allowed to kill either bears or mountian lions. Supposedly we do not have mountian lions, but from what I heard out in Western Maryland we have them. The DNR will deny any evidence of Mountain Lions in the state and say that they must be pets or something.

I do not think that I could shoot a predator for fun. In self-defense yes, but I do not have any interest in hunting bears or lions. If someone else wants to, more power to them I will stick with bambi and turkeys. Yummy.

Does a bear do that in the woods?

Depends on if he is near a ranger station.

Thanks for the oing to the beqar attack thread. Pepper spray just makes a bear long for a marguritta after the snack. Pepper spray and a sleeping bag? Buritto. I think teh .45-70 should at least slow down a Grix if I hit him in the right spot a .454 Taurus raging Bull will also giove him at least soem pause or there is always the 12 bore. I have not had a chance to go fishing in Alaska and hope to get to it should all go well this year. I will go fully armed.
