I am firmly convinced that genetics is a major factor in sexual determination. One of my friends who is a lesbian has bodily features that are so obviously male that she alone constitutes a very strong proof of genetic disposition. Anyone she meets knows immediately that she is a lesbian and that she didn't have any choice, she's built like a Mack Truck.

I also had a male cousin who was almost a full double cousin (ours fathers were brothers and our mothers are first cousins). On his side, the only genetic lineage we do not share included an uncle who was definitely homosexual and a concert musician. My double cousin was homosexual and he said he never had a desire for a female in his life, he also was an accomplished musician and had a brief career in ballet. I on the other hand am completely straight and tone deaf. Those two people have completely convinced me about the genetic aspects of homosexuality. I am proud to have both of them as family members.

These are obviously anecdotal instances but they are also cases of which I am extremely familar.

I agree, as homosexuality occurs in all species. I believe it is more of a genetic defect than generation thing. Becase if it was inherited, then the tendency would die out over time.

I find that most gays(I hate that word) are regular people, who work, and get along without makeing sex an issue. I consider it an handicap more than a perversion.

I absolutely agree. In fact, I don't see how anyone can observe the body types, the facial features, and the mannerisms of many gays and lesbians and deny that there is a strong genetic component in many cases.

Most of the opponents of the genetic argument seem to be religious people who view homosexuality as a sin that was chosen by the person. To admit that it is genetic would be to admit that God creates homosexuals, which is totally unacceptable in their worldview.

That's a really silly anecdotal story which you are trying to use as some basis for proof.

I had a friend who, like your friend, had "bodily features that are so obviously male" that we would have really wondered about her if we hadn't met her husband and kids. She was very athletic and she played several different sports (of course softball was one of them). She was not at all feminine but she certainly wasn't a lesbian.

And, yes, she got hit on quite often by lesbian women. It was a running joke, and she was good-natured about it, but she got tired of some of them being so aggressive and insistent that she was really a lesbian, that she was just closeted, blah, blah, blah.

The problem, also, is that it can be both nature and nurture. Abused children (emotionally or physically) can become gay, but it's also possible to find non-abused-as-children homosexuals, I'd think.

It's more likely that she is so ugly that she's had negative reactions from men most of her life, so she subconsciously turned to women for acceptance and, ultimately, sex.

But you haven't allowed for the fact that Ms. Mack Truck, from an early age was looked at differently than Ken's Barbie. It is unimaginable that these kinds of experience (especially in our era of extremely high value on perfectionist sexual images) did not have a profound effect on her attitudes toward boys, men, and women. Most Lesbians (maybe all) are "lesbians by default," ---They desperately want someone to hug them and hold them close, but they perceive the chances of that happening with a male human as essentially zero, so they get affection where they can find it--a dog, a cat, or a female human.
