Clearing up the Rush Flap. (Vanity)

Just when I thought the whole Rush McNabb flap was getting to be boring Fox Sports had to go and open its mouth.
If they had any decency, integrity and intellectual honesty they would have just let it go and not bothered to comment. But this is Terry Bradshaw, James Brown and Howie and Jimmy Johnson
not exactly the world elite in brains. I mean I used to enjoy their silly antics and found them amusing...but rocket scientists they were not. Note I said used to. This Sunday I turned them off. For good.
The first glaringly annoying aspect of there commentary was the trite way each of them went one by one giving their own two cents on the matter. As they did so it became glaringly apparent that not a one of them understood...or had the honesty to admit what Rushs comments were about. Each one of them hammered on the notion that Rush Limbaugh was somehow criticizing McNabb for being black, which he did not do. None of the three white guys addressed the issue that Rush did. That the MEDIA had a problem not McNabb. Instead all three white guys chose to use the word ignorant (Howie even went so far as to suggest racist which shows his own familiarity with ignorance) and went on to explain how on the field none of them as players or coaches cared about skin color. Ok. Sure. So whats your point? Rush didnt say anything about players being racist or players being better or worse for a position for their race. None of that came into question so what exactly are you complaining about.
Ah then the truth became stunningly clear to me. This wasnt about Rush Limbaugh at all. This was about them all going on record as not being racist white media guys. I see now. Pile on Rush to show what a good multicultured media guy you really are. I mean seriously. Even if one of the three white guys on the show were to agree with Rush does anyone honestly think he would say so after what happened to Rush. HAH! Fat Chance. So lets all go down the line one by one and go one record about how we dont care about a players skin color its all about your performance on the field. Good now that we have that all cleared up I can vomit.
Whoa there cowboy not so fast. James Brown hasnt weighed in. Time to let the black commentator give the coup de grace which is why he spoke last when normally on Foxs NFL show he comments first (something that in itself indicates a media concern over race). Wait a minute. Thats different. James Brown spends his time talking about how in the old days black players were discriminated against and everyone knew it. He then goes on to say that if there is a media sensitivity to blacks in the sport then its only justice being served for all the wrong done in the past a sort of media based professional athlete affirmative action (which we know is so important since we know black athletes never get a fair shake and are so abused and unfairly discriminated against.) In short James Brown said. Yeah its true the media is more sensitive to Black quarterbacks but it only fair and Rush as a white man shouldnt have dared to have the audacity to comment about it. Telling the truth about race is just racist.
So glad we cleared all that up on Fox Sports this Sunday.

To say the media over-hyped McNabb because he is black, is implicitly saying something about his skill at the same time. It is Rush's perception that the media over-hyped McNabb because he is black, and that McNabb was not as skilled as the media made him out to be.
If Rush's perceptions are not accurate, then Rush is blatently making judgements about McNabb and also about the media reporting on McNabb and basing those judgement on the fact that McNabb is black.
To: Prysson
Rush was rediculed because he pointed out that the media is racist. For this he is labeled a racist.
If I told you your house was on fire would you have me arrested for arson?
If I told you it was going to rain would you blame me for ruining your picnic?
This reaction is really silly.

I for one will never watch the Fox pregame show ever again after yesterday. While they certainly had a right to comment on the issue, they used it largely for their own "holier than thou" self promotion. It made me sick.
They had a chance to say something constructive and instead they pontificated. I used to like those guys but now I see them for the self promoting boors they really are. Never again. They should apologize to the viewing public for wasting everybody's time with their their blatant sucking up.
Who sponsors that program ? Coors ? Bud ? I'd like to put them on my "don't buy" list too.

My thoughts exactly. I'm done watching this crap on both of these shows & I am very dissappointed in Bradshaw who was the reason why I watched the FOX show. But here is the problem. How far will these "whities" & others with the PC crapola take the American populace before there is an active backlash ? How many times must I see my race be ridiculed with NO consequences?

Did you see Rush on TV when he said it? I watched the re-plays and I heard nothing "racist" in what he said.
Rush was hounded because he is not a phony PC lib who skirts the issues, making excuses for some yet condemning others who do the same exact thing.
Prysson's analysis is excellent.
To: Prysson
Excellent article!
With Limbaugh on ESPN, Countdowns ratings rose 10% overall and 26% among males who are age 18-34. Additionally, the episode that began this current controversy recorded ESPNs highest viewer rating since November 1996.
ESPNs pregame show competitors: FOX (James Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, and Howie Long), CBS (Jim Nantz, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, and Deion Sanders), and HBO (Bob Costas, Chris Carter, Chris Collinsworth, and Dan Marino).

For good.Hmmm, you appear to be a football fan. Since you said you will no longer watch Fox pregame, and it's obvious that you are not watching ESPN pregame, then I wish you luck watching Neon Deion Sanders and Boomer on CBS. It's almost unwatchable.
I see now. Pile on Rush to show what a good multicultured media guy you really are.
So when Rush points out, at drop of a hat, that some of his staff(personal and Radio) are black, that's OK? Seems like a bit of double standard to me. But then again, you wanted political agenda showing up on an NFL pregame show. So I don't really respect you opinion to begin with.

I think I am as "race reactionary" as anyone allowed to post on this forum.
I do not think that Rush was wrong in what he said. I have no doubt that many sports writers ...particularly Sports Illustrated...are social engineers with an agenda.
However, i watched the tape of his comments over and over and came away with the feeling that it was not the time and place. It seemed overly political and put Irvin and Jackson on the spot.
That's just an immediate instinctive reaction I had to watching him.
I do not feel he should have been forced to resign or fired. I'm not sure that is why he quit anyway...yet.

You have a point in stating the obvious? I say that he should not have been ridiculed for his comment. It was a fair and true comment, given an opportunity he would have been able to prove his point.
