CA Democratic Chairman Art Torres: Criticizing Busta's Tax & Spend Policies "Offensive to Latinos"
MSNBC

Posted on 10/06/2003 7:21:25 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Just when you thought that Art Torres couldn't sink any lower - the smarmy, slimy, unctuous phony Chairman of the California Democratic Party . . .

Torres just completed an interview on MSNBC, along with Duf Sundheim, the California GOP Chairman.

At one point, Sundheim criticized Busta for "going along with all of Gray Davis's tax and spending increases."

Torres piped up to say: "that is offensive and demeaning to Latinos."

That's right. Anytime is a good time to cry racism and seek to stir up with worst kind of passions.

I guess in Torres's view of the world, minority politicians should be exempt from criticism, even when it comes to the most fundamental issues of public policy, like how much government should spend and how much it should tax to pay for its spendings.

Torres is absolutely the worst kind of demagogue. What a despicable performance.

Because of SB60, all Californians who want Grey Davis out should vote for McClintock, he is the better man. He can use Arnold to be his press and media person. SB60 will keep Davis in unless people give up the very charismatic Arnold and VOTE for Tom McClintock! by far the best man for California if you want to change things.

The only time I've seen him forced to answer a question was on Hannity. Torres stand for everything bad in the RAT party.

Pinging the Today Show list with an example of liberal egregious on MSNBC - though the culprit was a guest, not a host.

"Last Gasp" Art claims to speak for no one but Latinos. If he wasn't speaking for them he'd have nothing to say.

Torres sounds and speaks so much like your garden-variety liberal Dem, that I was actually shocked when he suddenly played the race card in such a vile manner.

I guess no one ever went broke overestimating the depths to which the Democratic party will sink.

Mexico's Reconquista

Audio clip of Art Torres speaking to 400 cheering Latinos in 1995:

"[Proposition]187 is the last gasp of white America in California. And people say to me on the Senate floor when I was in the Senate, why do you fight so hard for affirmative action programs? And I tell my white colleagues, you're going to need them."

Wow! Great information. Thanks for posting. Torres truly is the smiling, smarmy face of the worst kind of racism. The MeCha brand of "For the race, everything. For others, nothing."

As an American of Hispanic origin, (notice I didn't say "Hispanic-American", I'm an American first), all I can say is that Cruz and Art prove that you don't have to be a "white boy" to be a racist.

Bill Press:

"Press has enjoyed a high-profile career in government, politics and broadcasting that has spanned more than two decades. He was chairman of the California Democratic Party from 1993-1996, chief of staff to California State Senator Peter Behr and director of the California Office of Planning and Research under Gov. Jerry Brown. He has also managed several local and state political campaigns."
